Jerry L. Casebolt, 71, formerly of Nevada, Iowa, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Saturday, March 16, 2019, near Hartsel, Colorado. Jerry was born January 28, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, the first son of Orville and Bernice (Hug) Casebolt.
Jerry graduated from Nevada High School in 1966 and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northeast Missouri State University in 1971. He married Carol Fitzgerald in 1970; however, they later divorced. Following graduation, Jerry began his business career as credit manager for Wright Tire and Appliance in Kirksville, Missouri. He later became a licensed insurance agent for Fidelity Union Life Insurance Company and worked for agencies in Kirksville, Missouri; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Pueblo and Denver, Colorado. He loved the freedom he found in the mountains of Colorado and made his home there the last thirty years of his life. Jerry was a big guy with a big voice, a big smile, and a caring heart. He cherished the friendships he made in the community and among the members of the Country Church of Hartsel, and he served his community tirelessly. He established the local food bank, A Hand Up-Not A Handout, and founded the Wood Chuck Program that cuts and delivers firewood to those in need. Jerry was always available to help a neighbor.
Jerry is survived by two children, Lee (Jen) Casebolt of Cedar Rapids, and Kristin (Colin) Crawford of Council Bluffs, and two grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, John (Barb) Casebolt of Cedar Rapids and David Casebolt of Lannon, Wisconsin, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held in Nevada at a later date.
