Authorities arrested an Iowa Department of Natural Resources employee from Ames on Wednesday after authorities said he forced a six-year-old to perform multiple sexual acts.

According to Ames Police Cmdr. Jason Tuttle, Ames Police Department received a report on April 22 from the victim’s mother claiming Samuel M. McDeid, 34, forced the child to perform oral sex to him twice and sexually touched the victim against her will.

While the investigation was underway, McDeid admitted to authorities he forced the child to perform sexual acts on him after the victim initially resisted.

Despite the incidents being reported at the end of April, Tuttle said the sexual acts were performed over a period of a year and a half.

“When we do these investigations, part of the process is a forensic interview for the children and we do that in Des Moines,” Tuttle said. “They have specially-trained forensic interviewers that interview child victims and it helps us with the investigation.

“Part of the reason [the investigation] took so long was because we had to set up a time with them.”

McDeid has been charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault and is being held in Story County Jail in Nevada on a $150,000 bond.

KCCI reported McDied’s legal counsel has requested a bond review, referencing his time in the army, life-long residency in Iowa and his employment at the Iowa DNR to be considered in his bond amount.

His council is asking for his bond to be reduced to $10,000, KCCI reported.

If found guilty of all three charges, he would face up to 75 years in prison.
