A man from Zearing won a $50,000 Powerball prize from the March 27 drawing while running an errand for his mother.
James McMenamin, 24, matched four of five balls in the drawing, according to a press release.
While gassing up his truck, McMenamin grabbed lottery tickets from the Casey’s located at 702 U.S. Hwy 65 in Colo.
“I was like, ‘I’m feeling kind of lucky, so I’ll buy a few tickets and we’ll see where it goes,’” he said in the press release.
One of three Powerball tickets McMenamin bought would end up being one number away from winning a share of the $768.4 million jackpot won that night.
“Made sure I put that ticket somewhere where I wouldn’t lose it. I signed it right away and then just tucked it away and kept my mouth shut,” he said.
McMenamin plans to use the money to pay for college and to invest the rest.
