Nevada Golden K Kiwanis

Nevada Golden K Kiwanis met at the Nevada Library on Nov. 27. Marsha Jackson gave the invocation and Mary Pevestorf led singing.

Librarian Shanna Spear was our speaker and told about the offerings and services available to the public.

President Collins updated the group on our nut and candy sales, as well as the “Our Iowa” calendar sales. Fourteen members responded to roll call. We are planning a Christmas Brunch on Dec. 11. Guests and visitors are always welcome to join with us.

Nevada Rotary

President Sara Clausen called the Nevada Rotary meeting to order at Indian Creek Country Club on Nov. 28, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer. Reports were given by Lynn Scarlett from the Chamber regarding the following events: Shop Nevada First is underway until Dec. 17 at these local businesses: Ben Franklin, Good & Quick, McFarland Eye Center, Nevada Hardware, Nevada Vision Clinic, NuCara Pharmacy, River Valley Credit Union and State Bank & Trust and the Chamber will hold its annual Cookie Walk on Friday, Dec. 7 at First United Methodist Church — 300 dozen cookies are still needed to reach the goal of 400 dozen cookies. Mark Cahill gave a markets’ report. Kaitlin Tibbedeau, Nevada Junior Rotarian, announced that both Nevada girls’ basketball and boys’ basketball played Tuesday night and will play Friday night, and the Nevada wrestling team will have their first meeting Friday. Rob Bacon offered a prayer. Rod Biensen played “Jingle Bells” and the Welcome to Rotary song. Today’s meeting had one guest: Tom Hertz from Ames Noon Rotary.

Today’s announcements included: $100 was raised with last week’s Dueling Pianos program, leave of absences were approved for Stephanie Roscoe, Tammy Oxley, and Marty Chitty. A resignation was accepted from Rick Sanders. Sara invited Janeen Driscoll to tell the club about herself. Janeen talked about her real estate position with Hunziker and Associates, and her family.

Sara Clausen announced today’s program: Sunny Swarbrick with the Story County Foundation. Sunny talked about joining the Story County foundation in 2017 and what brought her to this position. She provided an overview of the role Story County Foundation plays in raising funds for the foundation and how grants are given back into the county.
