It was announced on Nov. 20 by VERBIO North America Corporation (VNA), the U.S. subsidiary of leading German bioenergy producer VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO), that they have completed the purchase of DuPont’s Nevada, Iowa-based cellulosic ethanol plant and a portion of its corn stover inventory.

Consistent with earlier statements, Greg Northrup, president of VNA, indicated the company will now finalize its plans to install facilities to produce renewable natural gas (RNG) made from corn stover and other cellulosic crop residues at the site. Phase I construction will begin as soon as all appropriate permits have been obtained.

On Nov. 16, the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) announced its approval of the company’s application for the High Quality Jobs Program in support of their plans for creating new jobs. Northrup said, “We expect to create 44 full time direct jobs at the plant and another 100+ indirect jobs in the local supply and value chain.” A strong partnership with the IEDA was a critical factor in the company’s decision to redevelop the site.

Over the coming months, the company looks forward to working with local growers, vendors and city of Nevada officials.
