The 16th National Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Drug Take Back Day is scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 27. Under the banner, “Don’t Be a Dealer,” Americans are being encouraged to clean out their medicine cabinets and properly dispose of the unused or expired prescription drugs in their homes.
Nevada-area residents can take unneeded and old medications to NuCara Pharmacy (1002 Sixth St.) from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday.
This local event is hosted by the Nevada Substance Abuse Task Force, in cooperation with NuCara Pharmacy. The task force is committed to addressing substance use, promoting a healthy and safe community, and preventing drug addiction and overdose deaths.
Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue and can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision. Too often, unused drugs find their way into the wrong hands, causing dangerous and tragic consequences. Proper disposal of unused drugs prevents accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse. Take-back programs are the best way to dispose of old drugs.
Not available on Saturday morning, Oct. 27? NuCara Pharmacy is a year-round medication disposal site.
