“Beef It Up!” — a new fundraiser for Nevada Food at First — will be held on Tuesday, July 17, from 5-6:30 p.m. at Nevada First United Methodist Church (1036 Seventh St.).

The purpose of this fundraiser is to provide “seed money” for the program’s next full beef purchase. Each year, Nevada Food at First buys a full corn-fed beef from a local producer. Once processed, it provides about a year’s worth of high-quality protein for volunteer cooks to use for the Monday and Thursday evening community meals. Supporters say the partnership is a true “Farm-to-Table” connection.

The “Beef It Up!” event will include light appetizers, desserts, a chance to understand more about food insecurity in our community and an opportunity to support “Nevada Food at First” community meals.

The best steaks from this year’s beef (tenderloin filet and ribeye steaks) have been processed in roughly one pound packages and donated to support this event. There will be a drawing to give away most of the beef packages at the July 17 event. (Donors will be contacted after the event and do not need to be present.) Suggested donation for drawing tickets — 2 tickets/$10 donation or 5 tickets/$20 donation. Donations for tickets will be accepted in advance at the Chamber office and Farm Grounds. We will also stage our own Cy-Hawk series with one ISU tailgate steak basket and one Iowa basket available for silent auction. The largest filet and ribeye steaks will be live auctioned as a “Best of the Best” package at 6 p.m.
