Runners United Nevada announced Friday that The Duo, consisting of John Schumacher and Dave Gray, will be providing post-race entertainment at the fifth annual Story County Freedom Run 5k on Saturday, June 30. The race, which raises money for Story County Freedom Flight, also features a pancake breakfast and silent auction. The event will be held at Story County Medical Center, 640 S. 19th St., in Nevada.

“The Freedom Run has been a major success through its first four years, but with its fifth year, our board wanted to emphasize a more exciting post-race atmosphere,” said Dane Nealson, president of Runners United Nevada. “We wanted to make additions to the morning of the race that would encourage more families to attend, even if they were not running in the race. John and Dave are known for their energetic and entertaining performances, and we are excited and thankful to have them involved. They will bring the energy we are looking for to help create more of a festival-like feel during the pancake breakfast and post-race awards ceremony.”

Story County Freedom Flight honors Story County veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm for their sacrifices by sending them to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials from their respective wars. More recently, veterans were taken to the Middle East Conflicts Memorial Wall in Marseilles, Ill. The organization is currently coordinating with nearby Freedom Flight groups to send veterans who were unable to make earlier trips with the Story County groups, and has funded a number of home projects to benefit local veterans. Story County Freedom Flight is in its seventh year of operation, and was awarded the Governor’s Volunteer Recognition Award by Gov. Terry Branstad in 2013 for its efforts.
