Linda Betsinger McCann will be speaking at the Nevada Library on Wednesday, June 27, at 5:30 p.m., about her books on the Civilian Conservation Corps in Iowa. Everyone is invited and there is no admission charge.
The CCC was a federal program to assist young men in supporting their families. Most people in Iowa know about the work done in the state parks, but the CCC also worked on soil erosion, flood and drought prevention and planted trees. Linda has spoke with 19 men who were in the CCC and shares their stories.
Linda has written two books on the CCC thus far, on the northeast and southeast portions of the state. She is finishing the central part of the state, which includes this area. Then she will move to the western part of Iowa. It is expected this will be a four- or five-book series. She would like to speak with any man who was in the CCC or their family members.
Linda has had 11 books published and loves to discover Iowa history. She began sharing it with her grandchildren and it has grown to the point where she encourages everyone to share these memories with their grandchildren.
She is now working on a book on the Prisoner of War camps in Iowa during World War II. Eldora had a camp in this area. She is trying to find people who knew POWs, or had them work on their farms, etc. This book is expected to be published in October by Tandem Publishing Company in Des Moines.
