DUNKERTON – The Colo-Nesco baseball team suffered an 11-1 loss at Dunkerton in six innings June 26.

The Royals fell behind 6-0 after four innings. They came back with a run in the fifth, but Dunkerton put up five runs in the sixth to end the game early due to the 10-run rule.

Steven Cutler scored Colo-Nesco’s only run and he was 1-for-2 with a walk. Payton Larson had a pinch-hit single for the only other Royal hit.

Brady Stoeffler walked twice and Brandyn Niemeyer walked and stole a base. Niemeyer was the losing pitcher as he allowed six runs – five earned – on four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

J.T. Adams threw one inning and allowed no runs on one hit. Adam Lytle gave up one run on two hits with a pair of walks and one strikeout in 2/3 of an inning and Tyler Guy gave up four runs.

The loss put Colo-Nesco at 8-10 on the season and 5-5 in the Iowa Star Conference. The Royals also received a forfeit victory over Meskwaki June 24.

GREEN MOUNTAIN – Colo-Nesco split two games with GMG and HLV at the GMG Invitational June 22 in Green Mountain.

The Royals whipped GMG by a 12-1 score in six innings and they suffered a 16-5 loss to HLV in a game that also lasted six frames.

In the victory over GMG the Royals were aided by 15 walks. That helped them roll to the decisive win despite just four base hits.

Brandyn Niemeyer was 2-for-4 with one run and RBI apiece; Taylor Hill singled, walked twice, stole a base, scored two runs and drove in three and Adam Lytle finished 1-for-1 with two walks, a steal and two runs and RBI apiece.

J.T. Adams walked twice, stole three bases and scored four times, Tyler Guy and Jake Webb both walked and scored; Brady Stoeffler walked twice, drove in a run, scored and stole a base and Steven Cutler also drew two free passes.

Adams was the winning pitcher as he allowed just one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Tyler Krull took the loss for GMG after giving up eight runs – six earned – on 10 walks with three strikeouts.

Austin Vaughn singled, stole a base and scored the lone Wolverine run.

In the loss to HLV, the Royals fell behind 8-1 after two innings and trailed 12-1 through four. They scored four runs in the fifth, but HLV came back with four the next inning to end the game early.

Lytle took the loss for Colo-Nesco as he gave up 11 runs – just three earned – on six hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Stoeffler surrendered five runs on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk in three innings.

Adams doubled, walked, stole a base and put up two runs and RBI apiece in the loss. Niemeyer doubled, scored and drove in a run; Tanner Clatt and Christian Montgomery both singled and scored and Guy and Brandon Jacobs each added a single.

Wade Van Otegham went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a steal and Louis Kriegel also drove in three runs for HLV. Matt Maschmann was the winning HLV pitcher as he threw all six innings and allowed five earned runs with five strikeouts and two walks.

Colo-Nesco’s season record moved to 8-9 at the conclusion of the tournament.
