Two members of the Nevada football team were given all-state honors by the Iowa Newspaper Association in 2013.

Junior tailback Chase Dobson and senior offensive lineman Alex Merfeld were chosen to the Class 2A all-state teams by the INA after they helped Nevada earn back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time in school history.

Dobson landed on the 2A second team. He rushed for a school record 2,057 yards and 18 touchdowns on 231 carries and added four catches for 107 yards and two scores.

Merfeld was a third-team selection in 2A. In addition to help paving the way for Dobson’s success, Merfeld anchored an offensive line that helped the Cubs average 22.9 points and 342.5 yards per game.

Kuemper Catholic quarterback Cole Neary was the 2A captain. Neary threw for 3,113 yards and 39 touchdowns and added 276 yards and nine touchdowns rushing for the unbeaten 2A state champions.
