C-N ends season at 12-18
BROOKLYN – The Colo-Nesco baseball team saw its season come to a close with a 5-2 loss to Belle Plaine in Class 1A district quarterfinal competition July 16 in Brooklyn.
The Royals took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but they found themselves trailing 3-1 going into the sixth after Belle Plaine put up two runs in the second and one in the fourth. Colo-Nesco scored its second run of the game in the sixth, but Belle Plaine put two runs across the plate in the inning and the Plainsmen held the Royals scoreless in the seventh to sew up the victory.
Freshman Brandon Jacobs was 2-for-3 with an RBI and senior Brandyn Niemeyer went 1-for-3 with a run, walk, two steals and an RBI to lead Colo-Nesco at the plate. J.T. Adams finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a run and Brady Stoeffler drew one walk for the Royals in the loss.
Niemeyer was the losing pitcher. He went the distance and struck out an impressive 13 batters to go along with allowing five earned runs on six hits with six walks in his final game.
Colo-Nesco finished the season at 12-18.
Reece Kimm threw all seven innings for Belle Plaine and he struck out five with three walks and allowed just one earned run to pick up the victory. Kimm also went 2-for-4 with a double, steal and run at the plate and Trey Squiers ended up 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI to lead the Plainsmen on offense.
