C-N pulls even in ISC at 7-7
ALEXANDER – The Colo-Nesco baseball team put CAL away early July 2 in Alexander as the Royals produced 11 runs over the first three innings on their way to a 15-4 rout in five.
Colo-Nesco carried a 4-2 lead after one inning. The Royals then put six runs on the board in the second inning to claim a commanding 10-2 lead.
The Royals took an 11-3 lead into the fifth inning and then they scored four more times. CAL was only able to score once in the fifth as the game ended due to the 10-run rule.
Taylor Hill, Brandyn Niemeyer, Adam Lytle, Brady Stoeffler and Grant Tiarks all had two hits for Colo-Nesco in the win. Hill added two runs, steals and RBI apiece plus a walk; Niemeyer scored four times and picked up two steals and a pair of walks; Lytle tripled, drove in two runs and scored three times; Stoeffler recorded two runs and three RBI and Tiarks contributed a walk and a steal.
Tyler Guy went 1-for-2 with a run, walk and two RBI, Payton Larson had a pinch-hit single and Brandon Jacobs and Steven Cutler both scored once.
Stoeffler was the winning pitcher, giving up two unearned runs on two hits with nine strikeouts and four walks in four innings. J.T. Adams allowed two unearned runs on two hits with three strikeouts and no walks in one inning of relief.
Dylan Moricz went 3-for-3 with a run, two steals and a pair of RBI for CAL. Moricz was also the losing pitcher after giving up 10 runs – nine earned – on three hits with five walks and three strikeouts in two innings.
The victory put Colo-Nesco at 11-13 on the season and 7-7 in the Iowa Star Conference.

ZEARING – Colo-Nesco received strong pitching in both games of a doubleheader with Clarksville July 1 in Zearing, but the Royals only hit the ball well in one of the two games as they ended up splitting with the Indians.
Colo-Nesco pulled off a 9-0 victory in one game and Clarksville took the other by a 2-0 score.
In the 2-0 loss, Royal pitcher Brandyn Niemeyer held Clarksville scoreless over the first five innings. But Clarksville scored one run in each of the final two innings, which proved to be enough to get the job done as Colo-Nesco only had three hits.
Niemeyer struck out seven, walked five and allowed just four hits and one earned run in seven innings to take the loss. Taylor Hill, Dayton Gilmore and Brady Stoeffler each singled once for the only Royal hits and J.T. Adams walked twice and stole a base.
Zach Bergman was the winning pitcher for Clarksville as he struck out eight and walked two to earn the shutout. Bergman also singled and scored on offense and Trevor Fenneman singled, scored and drove in a run; Matt Negan also singled in a run for the Indians.
In Colo-Nesco’s 9-0 victory. the Royals did all of their damage early. Colo-Nesco put three runs on the board in the first, two in the second, three more in the third and another in the fourth.
Taylor Hill went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs and Adams was 1-for-2 with a double, walk and two runs. Adam Lytle and Tyler Guy both singled and knocked in two runs, Niemeyer was 1-for-4 with one run and RBI apiece, Stoeffler went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run and Brandon Jacobs was 1-for-3 with a run.
Payton Larson walked three times and scored twice and Grant Tiarks drove in a run for the Royals.
Adams was the winning pitcher as he gave up just two hits and struck out five with a pair of walks in four innings. Stoeffler threw three hitless innings with four strikeouts and two walks in relief.
Jordan Myers took the loss for Clarksville after giving up nine earned runs with three walks and one strikeout in 3 1/3 innings.

ZEARING – Colo-Nesco gave a gutsy effort against North Tama June 28 in Zearing, but solid pitching couldn’t make up for poor hitting in a 5-1 loss to the Redhawks.
Royal pitchers Brandyn Niemeyer and J.T. Adams combined to hold North Tama to five hits and they totaled seven strikeouts and three walks. But one shaky inning proved costly as North Tama broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a four-run outing.
The Redhawks added another run in the sixth. Colo-Nesco countered with a run in the seventh, but that’s all the Royals could produce as they finished with just one hit on the night.
Niemeyer took the loss after allowing four runs – two earned – on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Adams gave up one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts and one walk in three innings.
Niemeyer singled for the only Royal hit and catcher Taylor Hill walked twice and scored the lone run for Colo-Nesco.
Dalton Hulme turned in a masterful performance for North Tama, striking out 10 and walking only two in the one-hit shutout. Jacob Wrage went 2-for-4 with a steal and a run and Brent Billerbeck finished 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI for North Tama.

COLFAX – A poor stretch over the fifth and sixth innings proved the difference for Colo-Nesco in a 7-1 non-conference loss at Colfax-Mingo June 27.
The Royals only trailed 1-0 going into the fifth. Colfax-Mingo plated two runs in the fifth, then put four on the board in the sixth.
Colo-Nesco never got into a rhythm at the plate, recording just three hits. The Royals’ scored their only run in the top of the seventh inning.
Brandyn Niemeyer, Tyler Guy and Grant Tiarks each singled once for Colo-Nesco. Pinch runner Christian Montgomery scored the Royal run and he was driven in by Brady Stoeffler.
J.T. Adams was the losing pitcher after allowing six runs – five earned – on seven hits with four strikeouts and walks apiece in five innings. Brandyn Niemeyer gave up one run on one hit with a strikeout and a walk in one inning for the Royals.
Juan Gonzales struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter to earn the win for Colfax-Mingo. Jake Alexander went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI and Colin Lourens ended up 2-for-4 with a run for the Tigerhawks.
