LATIMER – The Colo-Nesco softball team scored an 8-2 Iowa Star Conference victory over CAL July 2 in Latimer.

The Royals took a 3-0 lead after two innings and built an 8-1 advantage through six before coasting home to improve to 7-15 on the season and 6-6 in the ISC.

Colo-Nesco recorded eight hits on offense. Hannah Buseman went 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks, a steal and two runs and RBI apiece, Shayla Dean finished 2-for-4 with two runs and four steals and Kylie Sarver went 2-for-3 with a double, walk, two runs and a pair of RBI.

Melanie Van Loon added a 1-for-3 performance with a run and an RBI and Peyton Hall singled, scored and drove in a run. Madison Farren tacked on a 1-for-3 night with a steal and an RBI.

Erica Babinat was the winning pitcher as she allowed two earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and six walks. Emily Quinones allowed seven earned runs with three walks and a strikeout in a losing effort for CAL.

Jessica Heiserman was the winning star for CAL as she doubled, tripled and scored both Cadet runs.

MCCALLSBURG – Colo-Nesco used a strong start to pull off a 6-4 victory over North Tama June 28 in McCallsburg.

Colo-Nesco scored a run in the first, three in the second and one apiece in the third and fourth frames to build a 6-0 lead. North Tama came back with two runs in both the fifth and sixth frames to make it a game, but Colo-Nesco blanked the Redhawks in the seventh to secure an Iowa Star Conference victory.

Erica Babinat picked up the victory on the mound as she worked all seven innings and gave up four runs – one earned – on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts. Hannah Buseman was the top hitter for Colo-Nesco as she went 2-for-3 with a triple, walk, two runs and two RBI.

Shayla Dean finished 2-for-2 with a walk, steal and run and Sam Riese doubled and scored. Kylie Sarver was 1-for-1 with a walk, run and RBI; Peyton Hall singled and stole a base; Babinat went 1-for-4 with two RBI and Madison Farren walked and stole a base.

Anna Kvidera turned in a 2-for-3 night with two RBI to pace North Tama on offense. Emma Knoop was the losing pitcher for the Redhawks.
