BAXTER – The Colo-Nesco girls’ track team turned in eight top-five performances, and the Royal boys finished in the top seven five times at the Raider Coed Invitational Monday in Baxter.

The Colo-Nesco girls produced two silver medals and one bronze on the night. The Royals finished with a total of 35 points, with CMB winning the team title with a score of 140.

Shayla Dean earned two of Colo-Nesco’s medals and Caitlyn Riese earned the other one.

Dean took second in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes, 34.84 seconds. Dean’s time was over six seconds better than the third-place time by Collins-Maxwell-Baxter’s Shelby Berg and she came in less than two seconds behind winner, Abby Kohut-Jackson of Ballard, who finished in 2:33.42.

Dean also placed third in the open 400 with a time of 1:04.93. West Marshall’s Victoria Pothast won the 400 in 1:02.54.

Riese snagged a silver in the high jump for Colo-Nesco. Riese cleared the bar at five feet even to beat out CMB’s Alex Broderick for second behind the 5-6 effort by South Hardin’s Sarah Boomgarden.

Devin Francis provided a fourth-place finish for Colo-Nesco in the discus as she peaked with a throw of 104-9. Caitlan Clark was fifth in the 100 with a :13.88 showing and she came in sixth in the 200 after crossing the finish line in :28.78.

Hannah Buseman also delivered a top-five finish individually as she was fifth in the 400 low hurdles with a time of 1:18.52.

In relays Colo-Nesco placed fifth in both the 4 X 800 and shuttle hurdle.

Leah Vincent, Tabitha Halferty, Kylie Sarver and Taylor Brown teamed to run a time of 12:19 in the 4 X 800. Brandi Erickson, Brittnee Packer, Riese and Buseman joined forces to run a 1:21.01 in the shuttle hurdle.

The Colo-Nesco boys finished last out of eight teams with eight points. North Polk edged CMB for the boys’ team title with 130 points to the Raiders’ 116.

Despite a lack of depth and inexperience, preventing Colo-Nesco from getting a lot of points, the Royals did have some highlights at Baxter.

Tyler Erickson had the best outing for Colo-Nesco after coming in third in the 400 low hurdles. Erickson’s time of 1:00.28 trailed only the :55.86 and :58.98 by North Polk’s Clay Cory and Austin Williams.

Jake Webb also earned points for Colo-Nesco in the discus. Webb came in fifth with a throw of 128-9.5.

The Royal boys had three relay teams just miss placing with seventh-place times.

In the 4 X 800 Brady Stoeffler, Steven Cutler, Kevin Hapes and Josh Morrow ran a time of 10:17.91. Grant Tiarks, Stoeffler, Noah Gibbons and Erickson produced a 1:10.66 time in the shuttle hurdle and Tiarks, Cutler, Hapes and Morrow clocked in at 4:28.78 in the 4 X 400.
