C-N downs L-S, 14-8
SULLY – The Colo-Nesco baseball team outslugged Lynnville-Sully, 14-8, May 23 to earn its first victory of the season.
The Royals had a bad first inning, falling behind 6-1. But they quickly tied things up with a five-run outburst in the second.
Colo-Nesco scored three times in both the third and fourth innings to take a 12-8 lead. The Royals tacked on two big insurance runs in the fifth and after the poor start, Colo-Nesco relief pitcher J.T. Adams settled down to blank Lynnville-Sully over the final four innings.
Adams led Colo-Nesco offensively by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two steals and three runs and RBI apiece. Tanner Clatt was 2-for-4 with two runs and RBI apiece; Brandyn Niemeyer doubled, walked, stole a base and scored; and Adam Lytle doubled and scored twice for the Royals.
Tyler Guy, Brady Stoeffler and Payton Larson each had one single for Colo-Nesco. Guy also walked once; Stoeffler walked scored and drove in two runs; and Larson scored one time.
Taylor Hill also had a good game by going 1-for-3 with two walks, four steals, two runs and an RBI. Dayton Gilmore tacked on a single and RBI for the Raiders.
Adams ended up allowing one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts and four walks to earn the victory. The win put Colo-Nesco at 1-1 on the season.

STATE CENTER – Colo-Nesco wasn’t quite able to complete a rally against West Marshall in its season opener May 21 in State Center.
The Royals were on the brink of defeat when they scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to pull even with the Trojans. Colo-Nesco then blanked West Marshall in the bottom of the sixth, but the Royals couldn’t capitalize offensively in the seventh and the Trojans came back with one run in the bottom of the inning to claim a 3-2 victory.
Colo-Nesco ended up with five hits in the loss. Tyler Guy was 2-for-3 and J.T. Adams, Brandyn Niemeyer and Brady Stoeffler each had one hit. Adams and Taylor Hill each scored once; Adams also picked up a steal and a walk and Niemeyer tallied an RBI.
Niemeyer took the loss in relief after giving up one run on one hit with two walks and four strikeouts in two innings. Adams threw the first four innings and allowed two runs – one earned – on two hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.
Jared Riemenschneider struck out eight batters and gave up just one walk in seven innings to earn the win for West Marshall. Nolan Sinning went 1-for-2 with two walks, steals and runs apiece to pace the Trojan offensive attack.
