MONROE – The Nevada volleyball team didn’t face much resistance from Prairie City-Monroe Oct. 10 as the Cubs easily swept the Mustangs in a Heart of Iowa Conference match in Monroe.
Nevada, ranked 10th in Class 3A, overwhelmed PCM by a 25-8 score in the first set then picked up 25-15 and 25-14 victories to close out the Mustangs and improve to 7-0 in the HOIC and 22-11 overall.
The Cubs had a strong attack with 33 kills and 12 errors in 84 attacks and they also compiled 10 aces on a 66 of 74 serving effort.
Megan Pringnitz led a balanced Cub hitting attack with eight kills. She also had seven digs, two assists, one block and one ace.
Middle blocker Kati Cassabaum totaled seven kills and she also had one block. Mara Rhodes finished with six kills, seven assists and one dig and Abby Stephenson put up five kills and seven digs.
Michaela Matuska handed out 20 assists and led Nevada in digs with 10. She also went 16 of 17 serving with three aces and chipped in two kills.
Emma Lodestein added four kills and digs apiece, Jessica Helton registered seven digs, one kill and one assist and Erin Francis finished with three digs and one assist. Lodestein was also 7 of 7 serving with an ace, Helton finished 13 of 15 with one ace and Francis went 17 of 19 with four aces.
