NEVADA – One huge inning and two more solid offensive outbursts proved just enough to get Nevada past Saydel in a 14-13 slugfest June 26 at Billy Sunday Field.

Nevada’s bats were red-hot early as the Cubs scored a whopping eight runs in the first inning. But that lead did last long as Saydel scored three times in the first inning and plated six runs in the second to take a 9-8 lead.

The Cubs went back on top with a three-run third inning, but by the sixth inning Saydel had closed within 11-10. Nevada then produced its second three-run surge of the game in its half of the sixth and the Cubs overcame the Eagles scoring one run apiece in the sixth and seventh frames.

Alex Good withstood Saydel’s 14-hit attack, going all seven innings to earn the victory. He gave up 12 earned runs, walked five batters and struck out four.

Good, Zach Anderson and Colynn Black each collected two hits for Nevada. Good doubled, walked, scored once and drove in two runs; Anderson tallied a double and two runs and RBI apiece and Black doubled, scored twice, walked and knocked in three runs.

Owen Shawgo and Tanner Hanson both singled once and scored twice. Shawgo also drew a walk and Hanson drove in two runs. John Jamison singled and scored, Chase Stout walked once and scored three times, Patrick Stephenson drove in a run and Brook Thompson picked up a single.

Brandon Hodges went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles, walks and runs apiece and Kyle Tijerina finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI for Saydel. Tijerina took the loss as he allowed three runs on five hits with one strikeout in three innings of relief.
