Nevada’s Black named to first team

The Nevada baseball team had four players named all-Heart of Iowa Conference in 2013.

Senior third baseman Colynn Black was a first-team pick on the infield and senior Chase Stout made the second team at catcher after helping the Cubs place third in the conference with a 13-5 record.

Black hit .444 with a .698 slugging average, nine doubles, two triples and one home run in conference play. He also scored 19 runs and knocked in 18, and in the field he tallied 29 assists.

The rest of the all-HOIC first team included: North Polk’s Jacob Hadaway, Grant Lang, Brandon Cory and Reed Smith; Saydel’s Brandon Hodges, Alex Gustafson and Chas Nekola; Gilbert’s Jared Gescheidler; Roland-Story’s Zach Hovick; Colfax-Mingo’s Jake Alexander and South Hamilton’s Devin Howard. Hadaway was the only unanimous selection.

Stout landed on the second team after hitting .313 with 19 runs, seven RBI and four steals against conference competition. Stout also made 11 assists and caught two base runners on defense.

Senior first baseman Zach Anderson and sophomore infielder/designated hitter Alex Good were named all-HOIC honorable mention for Nevada.

Anderson hit .350 with five doubles and 15 RBI and he made 125 putouts and just two errors in the field. Good posted a .400 average with four doubles, one home run, nine runs and 13 RBI in 15 conference games and he also finished with just one error in the field.
