PERRY – The Nevada girls’ golf team took first out of four teams and the Cub boys’ came in second at the Witmer-Dumphy Perry Coed Invitational Monday at the Perry Golf and Country Club.

The Cub girls finished with a score of 197 over nine holes to beat Ogden by six strokes for the win. Perry came in third with a 213 and Gilbert was a distant fourth with a 256.

The Nevada boys had a score of 165 to come in seven strokes behind Gilbert for first. Perry again was third with a 168 and Ogden shot a 186.

The combined score of 362 by the Cub girls and boys easily beat Perry by 19 strokes for the top total score among the four schools competing.

Christine Ausman had a strong individual performance for the Cub girls by shooting a 43. Her score was third-best on the day after Perry’s Shelby Townsend (39) and Ogden’s Emily Rinehart (43).

As Ausman set the pace for the Cubs, it was good balance that put Nevada over the top. Maddie Beauchene also shot under 50 for Nevada with a 47, Megan Pringnitz carded a 53 and Haley Ellingson recorded a 54 as the other scored Cub golfers.

In the boys’ competition Nevada had five golfers shoot a 44 or better, including the top overall individual performance. Gilbert had just a bit better balance with two scores under 40 and none over 42, allowing the Tigers to win by seven strokes.

Colynn Black was the meet’s medalist for Nevada. Black shot an impressive 37 in rainy weather to finish just one over par.

Cole Gidel had the next-best Cub score with a 41. Braydon Otto added a 43 and Zach Hansen and James Kleasner each carded a 44 for the Cub boys.
