Nevada girls win two gold medals; boys pick up four silvers

BAXTER –The Nevada track teams had some solid outings at the Raider Coed Relays Monday as both teams ended up placing fourth.

The Nevada boys scored 69 points to finish 10 points behind Prairie City-Monroe’s third-place score and four points ahead of Colfax-Mingo. Collins-Maxwell-Baxter easily won its home meet with 157 points and Bondurant-Farrar took second with a score of 96.

The Cub boys picked up four silver medals and a pair of bronze medals on the day.

Sprinting events proved a big success for Nevada. The Cubs took second in both the 4 X 200 and 4 X 100-meter relays and Chase Dobson and Peyton Sharp ran well individually in both the 100 and 200.

In the 4 X 200 Sharp, Traye Pelzer, Alex Avalos and Dobson teamed to run a one minute, 34.96 seconds. Bondurant-Farrar won in 1:32.68 and CMB came in well behind Nevada in third with a time of 1:39.16.

Nevada was just a few tenths of a second behind Bondurant-Farrar in the 4 X 100. Sharp, Gabe Dubberke, Avalos and Dobson ran a :44.77 to come in just behind Bondurant-Farrar’s :44.38, and the Cubs were nearly one second ahead of Saydel’s third-place time.

Dobson and Sharp came in second and third in the 200 and second and fourth respectively in the 100.

In the 200, Dobson clocked in at :22.90 to finish just a step behind the winning :22.46 by Colfax-Mingo’s Connor Hainer. Sharp completed the 200 in :23.33.

Dobson’s 100 time was :11.33 and Sharp finished in :11.58. Saydel’s Jared Fonk won in :11.19.

Nevada finished fourth in the distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays, fifth in the 4 X 800 and sixth in the 4 X 400. Dubberke took fifth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of :17.40 and Lucas Markey was fifth in the 1,600 and sixth in the 800 with respective times of 5:07.88 and 2:18.49.

In field events Jordan Sanders and Lance Barber placed third and fourth respectively in the discus. Sanders had a throw of 140 feet, 0.5 inches and Barber peaked at 132 feet even.

Dubberke also took sixth in the long jump with his best jump being 17-8.5.

The Nevada girls scored 68 points to finish just three points behind PCM for third. CMB again easily won with 151 points and Bondurant-Farrar was second out of seven teams with a score of 94.

The Cub girls picked up two gold medals in field events as Alyssa Boyd won the high jump and Erin Sellberg took first in the long jump.

Boyd’s top jump was 5-0 to easily beat the runner-up jump of 4-8 by CMB’s Alex Broderick. Sophia Wilson took the bronze in the high jump for Nevada after clearing 4-8.

Sellberg’s best jump in the long jump was 14-4 as she just edged out the 14-3.75 by CMB’s Jenna Ziesman for the gold. Caroline Goecke took the bronze for the Cubs in the event as she topped out right at 14 feet.

Madilyn Highland also provided some points in field events as she placed in both throwing events. Highland took fifth in the shot put with a toss of 29-4 and she was sixth in the discus at 80-11.

On the track the Nevada girls came in second in the 4 X 800, and Mara Rhodes won the silver in the 100.

Amaris Hornbuckle, Maddie Henry, Delaney Cheek and Shannon Gilligan joined forces to run an 11:42.72 in the 4 X 800. CMB won the event in 11:06.28.

In the 100, Rhodes crossed the finish line in :13.50 and teammate Kelsey Haley was right behind her with a third-place time of :13.52. PCM’s Mackenzie Clarke won in :13.21.

Alli Fey and Sellberg took third and fifth respectively in the open 400 for Nevada. Fey clocked in at 1:04.11 and Sellberg finished in 1:07.12

Caitlin Dewell and Emily Dittmer placed third and fourth in the 1,500 with respective times of 5:39.60 and 5:43.65. Dittmer was also fourth in the 3,000 with a 12:30.13 showing.

Lindsey Haley won the bronze in the 200 with a :28.39 showing and Amaris Hornbuckle and Delaney Cheek placed fourth and fifth in the 800 with respective times of 2:50.62 and 2:54.36. Fey added a fifth-place time of :17.86 in the 100 hurdles.

The Cub 4 X 200 relay team of Kelsey Haley, Kelli Neal, Megan Neal and Kayla Little ran a third-place time of 1:58.20. Nevada also finished fourth in the distance medley and 4 X 400 and fifth in the sprint medley.
