AMES – The Nevada girls’ golf team turned in impressive outing to take first in a quadrangular meet at the Ames Golf and Country Club Friday, and the Cub boys came in second in a triangular meet.
The Nevada girls shot a 189 over nine holes to beat North Polk by an impressive 24 strokes for the meet victory. Gilbert came in third with a 235 and South Hamilton was fourth with a 248.
Christine Ausman led the way for the Cub girls. Ausman shot an impressive round of 40 on the day to win medalist honors by four strokes.
Maddie Beauchene and Claire Ausman both finished under 50 individually for the Cubs as they each shot a 48. Megan Pringnitz turned in the final counted score for Nevada with a 53 and Alexis Houseman and Chloe Davis were close behind after each carding a 54.
Gilbert’s Jacee Lenz was medalist runner-up in the girls’ meet with a 44.
Gilbert won the boys’ triangular with a score of 156 as a team. Nevada took second with a 175 and North Polk came in third with a 191.
Cole Gidel had the best individual score for the Cub boys. Gidel tied Gilbert’s Ben Hinners for medalist runner-up honors with a 39.
Zach Hansen shot a 42 for the next-best Cub score. Braydon Otto, Brady Shill and Chris Dobernecker each finished with a 47 and Jake DeVries carded a 50 for the Cub boys.
Gilbert’s Garrett Jensen was the boys’ medalist as he carded a 36.
