NEVADA – The Nevada boys’ track team won three events en route to placing second as a team, and the Cub girls picked up one silver and two bronze medals at the Nevada Coed Invitational April 4 at Cub Stadium.

The Nevada boys picked up gold medals in the 400 and 800-meter running events and the discus. Colynn Black won both the 400 and 800 and Jordan Sanders was victorious in the discus for the Cubs.

Black completed the 400 in 52.69 seconds to outlast the :53.89 run by Pella’s Wade Pingel for first. In the 800, Black ran a 2:07.98 to edge Pella’s Evan Jones, who finished in 2:08.90.

Black also came in fifth in the 200 with a time of :24.64.

Sanders claimed his gold medal with a throw of 138 feet, 10.5 inches. That was just good enough to beat the 138-3.5 toss by Pella’s Garret Jansen.

Sanders added a sixth-place showing in the shot put with a throw of 38-0.5.

Lance Barber came in fourth in the shot with a throw of 40-11.75 and he was sixth in the discus with a toss of 107-2.5. Erik Fevold took fourth in the long jump with a jump of 18-3 and Alex Merfeld and Trinity Barker placed fifth and sixth in the high jump with respective jumps of 5-2 and 5-0.

Peyton Sharp ended up third in the 100 and fourth in the 200 with respective times of :11.55 and :24.01. Lucas Markey took fifth in the 3,200 with a time of 11:31.40 and sixth in the 1,600 after crossing the finish line in 5:16.30.

Gabe Dubberke placed fourth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of :17.19 and Traye Pelzer came in fourth in the 400 lows after completing the race in 1:04.98.

In relays Nevada took second in the 4 X 100 and third in both the shuttle hurdle and 4 X 400.

Sharp, Fevold, Alex Avalos and Brandon Becker combined to run a :46.74 in the 4 X 100, and that same group completed the 4 X 400 in 3:49.05. Fevold, Pelzer, Barker and Dubberke completed the shuttle hurdle in 1:04.99

Nevada also placed fourth in the 4 X 800 and fifth in the 4 X 200 and distance medley. As a team, the Cubs scored 129 points to place second out of five teams behind Pella’s 207 points.

The Cub girls took fourth out of six teams with 82 points. They were led by a strong showing from Alyssa Boyd in the high jump and a pair of third-place relay teams.

Boyd cleared the bar at 4-8 in the high jump to earn her silver. Tiffany Latshaw added a fourth-place throw of 73-5 in the discus, Abby Tupper was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 27-6.5 and Erin Sellberg took sixth in the long jump with a jump of 14 feet even for Nevada in field events.

On the track the Cubs earned their two bronze medals in the 4 X 800 and shuttle hurdle.

Amaris Hornbuckle, Delaney Cheek, Danielle Sporrer and Emily Dittmer teamed to run a time of 12:05.30 in the 4 X 800 for Nevada. Alli Fey joined Latshaw, Boyd and Sellberg in producing a time of 1:15.99 in the shuttle hurdle for the Cubs.

Nevada also took fourth in the distance medley and the 4 X 100 and 4 X 200 events.

In the distance medley Kelsey Haley, Fey, Sellberg and Caitlin Dewell ran a 5:07.06.

In the 4 X 100, Haley, Kelli Neal, Megan Neal and Mara Rhodes teamed to run a :56.22 and that same quartet completed the 4 X 200 in 2:00.18.

Haley, Rhodes, Fey and Sellberg added a fifth-place time of 2:05.72 in the sprint medley and Maddie Henry, Brooke Kelley, Hornbuckle and Dittmer took sixth in the 4 X 400 with a 5:05.39 showing.

Dewell took fourth individual in the 3,000 with a 12:32.50 showing and she was sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 6:08.92. Rhodes came in sixth in the 100 after crossing the finish line in :13.70 and Abigail Bremer was fourth in the open 400 with a time of 1:09.88.
