COLO – The Colo-Nesco volleyball team opened the postseason with a strong performance Oct. 22 as the Royals swept Ankeny Christian Academy in the opening round of Class 1A regional competition at Colo.

Colo-Nesco dominated two of the three sets to advance; improving to 13-12 on the season.

The Royals earned a 25-10 win in the opening set. In the second set Colo-Nesco had to hold on in a 25-23 squeaker, but the Royals faced little resistance in the third set, pulling off a 25-12 triumph.

Colo-Nesco ended up with 33 kills and only 11 errors in 76 attacks. The Royals came up with eight blocks at the net on defense and they were a strong 70 of 73 with eight aces serving the ball.

Caitlyn and Sam Riese each had nine kills in the victory. Caitlyn also delivered nine digs, three blocks and one assist and Sam contributed two blocks and one ace.

Madison Farren came through with seven kills and she also had seven digs, two blocks and one ace. Hannah Buseman put up five kills and eight digs and she was 12 of 12 serving with an ace.

McKenna Farren was the top Royal server as she went 26 of 28 with four aces. McKenna also dished out a team-high 16 assists and totaled seven digs.

Brittnee Packer had 10 assists and one ace, Kylie Sarver totaled 10 digs and Shayla Dean added seven digs for the Royals.
