Royals pick up third conference win

MCCALLSBURG – A huge second inning carried the Colo-Nesco softball team to an 11-5 victory over GMG at McCallsburg Friday.

The Royals exploded for seven runs in the second to build a commanding 8-0 lead. GMG did just enough to prevent the 10-run rule from being enacted, but the Royals still easily cruised to victory as they improved to 4-14 overall and 3-6 in the Iowa Star Conference.

Colo-Nesco only had five hits on the night, but the Royals benefited from eight walks and a slew of GMG errors.

Hannah Buseman went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Michelle Babinat finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Royals. Sam Riese doubled for the other Royal hit and she also walked and drove in four runs.

Madison Farren walked twice, scored once and tallied two steals and RBI apiece and Shayla Dean walked, stole three bases, scored twice and drove in a run for the Royals. McKenna Farren walked and scored, Kassie Robinson scored once, Melanie Van Loon walked twice, scored and stole a base, Grace Stalzer scored twice and picked up a steal and Erica Babinat knocked in two runs

Erica was the winning pitcher. She threw all seven innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts and nine walks.
