COLO - The Colo-NESCO volleyball team won a five-set marathon with Meskwaki to pick up an Iowa Star Conference South Division victory Oct. 2 at Colo.
The Royals won the first set by a 25-20 score, then each of the next three sets were decided by a mere two points. Meskwaki won the second set, 26-24, Colo-NESCO came back with a 25-23 win in the third set and Meskwaki returned the favor with a 25-23 win of its own in set four.
That set up a rally game. The Royals had pushed Baxter to the limit before falling short in a rally game five days earlier, but this time they finished the job with a 15-12 triumph over Meskwaki.
The victory over Meskwaki put Colo-NESCO at 6-15 overall and 3-3 in the Iowa Star Conference South Division. The Royals had an outstanding attack against the Warriors, recording a .368 kill-efficiency rate with 41 kills and nine attack errors, and they also racked up an impressive 19 aces serving.
Meskwaki also had a good night serving the ball, finishing with 14 aces. The Warriors were strong at the net defensively with 10 blocks and they finished with 25 kills against 13 errors, dropping to 6-17 overall and 1-4 in the ISC South Division.
Rylee Purvis tallied nine kills, four digs and five aces on 22 of 25 serving and Megan Carlson finished with 36 assists, six kills, four digs and three aces for Colo-NESCO in the win. Maggie Barten tacked on 10 kills; Gracie Kettwig six kills, five aces, two digs and one block and Emma Sarver 16 digs and one ace.
Emmy Hostetler finished with six kills and three blocks; Lindsey Riese four kills, four digs and three aces and Lauryn Hill eight digs for Colo-NESCO.
Tori Lasley led Meskwaki with 10 kills, 11 digs, six blocks and four aces. Marley Whitefish tacked on 20 assists, five digs and two aces for the Warriors.
