COLO - The Colo-NESCO football team had no success moving the football against Springville in its home opener Friday in Colo, suffering a 48-0 loss at the hands of the Orioles.

Colo-NESCO was held to just 15 yards of offense, falling to 0-3 on the season. Mistakes prevented the Royals from maintaining any success moving the football.

“This game was another difficult loss to a quality opponent,” Colo-NESCO head football coach Josh Nessa said. “Offensively we also had some good plays but, any good plays we had would be offset by penalties, mistakes in blocking assignments and broken plays. We will continue to work on open field tackling and fundamentals.”

Springville built a 35-0 lead at the half. The Orioles put up two safeties and one field goal in the half and received two touchdown runs from Spencer DeMean, one from Zach March and a 2-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Hungate to Caleb Weber.

In the third quarter, Weber caught another touchdown pass and Grant Gloeckner ran one in from three yards out to wrap up the game for Springville.

“Despite the score, we continued to improve defensively,” Nessa said. “We had several good plays. The problem is that we would could not sustain it — explosive plays would create setbacks and destroy any momentum we had gained.”

Francis Bower made 14 tackles, Brandon Roberts eight, Andrew Grover four, Adam Texeira 2.5 and Jake Perry two for Colo-NESCO on defense. Parker Ryan also recovered a fumble.

Bower also ran for 24 yards and caught a 19-yard pass from Brandon Roberts on offense for the Royals.

Next up for Colo-NESCO is another home game versus Twin Cedars (1-2). The game will be the 8-man District 5 opener for the Royals.

“We are excited to start district play,” Nessa said.

The game begins at 7 p.m. this Friday in Colo.
