NEVADA - The Nevada baseball team couldn’t slow down Prairie City-Monroe over the last five innings in a 14-4 loss to the Mustangs July 3 on senior night at Billy Sunday Field.
The Cubs took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. But PCM scored in each of the next five innings, putting up at least two runs in all but one of those frames to pull away.
Nevada fell to 13-12 and ended up 5-9 in the Heart of Iowa Conference. The Cubs had nine hits in a losing effort.
Bronzon Mason was 2-for-3 with a double and a run; James Carsrud was 2-for-4 with two steals and an RBI; Jack Higgins singled, walked and scored twice and Thomas Crawford finished 1-for-3 with a run, walk, steal and RBI for the Cubs. Trent Stahl went 1-for-3 with a walk and a steal, Kyle Bauman finished 1-for-2 with two walks and Brock Dutton singled and stole two bases.
Dylan Sporrer was the losing pitcher. Sporrer gave up four runs — two earned — on six hits and a walk with one strikeout in 3 ⅓ innings.
Derek Brown got the win for PCM after allowing four runs on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 4 ⅔ innings. Preston Van Wyk had a huge game offensively for the Mustangs, going 5-for-5 with four runs, three steals and three RBIs.
