The Nevada girls’ soccer team had two players given all-state recognition by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association in 2018.
Senior keeper Grace Francis and sophomore sweeper Kacie Rewerts were both honored from Nevada. They helped the Cubs go 15-5 and reach the Class 1A state tournament for the seventh year in a row.
Francis was named to the IGCA first team in 1A. She made 104 saves and only gave up 14 goals during the season.
Francis was joined on the 1A first team by Davenport Assumption’s Molly Gervase, Carly King and Bridget Poster; Council Bluffs St. Albert’s Ellerie Tarbox; Columbus Catholic’s Ana Ortiz; Center Point-Urbana’s Raegan Dufoe; Des Moines Christian’s Angela Kinzie North Polk’s Danielle Bonewitz; Bondurant-Farrar’s Emma De Costa; Gilbert’s Eva Steckelberg and Tri-Center’s Tillie Heim.
Rewerts landed on the 1A second team. She scored one goal and was a key piece of the Cub defensive backline that helped produce 11 shutouts.
Assumption’s Elizabeth Maus was named 1A Coach of the Year by the IGCA after leading the Knights to their third-consecutive state title.
