MCCALLSBURG — The Colo-NESCO softball team overpowered Tripoli, 12-1, in five innings Friday at McCallsburg.
The Royals took full advantage of six hits, five walks and Tripoli defensive miscues to end the game early and improve to 5-5 overall. Colo-NESCO jumped out to a 7-0 lead, then dropped the hammer in the bottom of the fourth with a five-run outburst.
Molly Barten went 2-for-2 with a run and three RBIs; Megan Carlson doubled, scored and drove in a run and Faith Vincent doubled, waked and knocked in a run for the Royals on offense. Rylee Purvis singled, walked and scored twice; McKenzie Niemeyer was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI and Chelsea Henze walked and scored three times for the Royals.
Purvis was the winning pitcher. She fired a two-hitter and gave up one unearned run with four strikeouts and three walks, going all five innings.
MCCALLSBURG — Colo-NESCO never found a way to slow down West Marshall in a 14-1 loss to the Trojans June 5 at McCallsburg.
The Royals gave up 15 hits, including seven extra-base knocks, in the non-conference loss. West Marshall scored in every inning except the first.
Chelsea Henze hit a solo home run in the second inning to account for Colo-NESCO’s only run. McKenzie Niemeyer, Rylee Purvis, Gracie Kettwig and Claire Skinner each singled once for the Royals.
Purvis was the losing pitcher. She allowed 11 earned runs on 15 hits and six walks with three strikeouts, going the distance.
Loran Nicholson struck out two and walked one in seven innings as the winning Trojan pitcher. Brooke Snider was 3-for-5 with a home run, five steals and three runs and RBIs apiece and Renae Schaper went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI to lead West Marshall offensively.
