BELOIT, Wis. — The Burlington Bees have played eight doubleheaders this season.
They got their first sweep on Monday.
The Bees took two Class A Midwest League games from the Beloit Snappers, winning the first game 3-2 in eight innings and the second game 3-1.
Jimmy Barnes drove in all three of Burlington's runs in the first game. Barnes, who had just one hit in his last 25 at bats coming into the doublheader, drove in Kevin Williams and Keinner Pina with a single to give the Bees a 2-1 lead. His sacrifice fly in the eighth inning scored Julio Garcia with the eventual winning run.
Kida De La Cruz (2-2) was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits while striking out four in two innings. James Ziemba got his fourth save.
Burlington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. Torii Hunter Jr, stole third base and scored on a throwing error.
Connor Fitzsimons drove in the other two runs for the Bees. Fitzsimons had a solo home run in the second inning, and his sixth-inning double scored Garcia.
Michael Santos (1-0), making his first appearance of the season, got the win in relief.
Williams extended his hitting streak to eight games. Williams went 1-for-3 in the first game and 2-for-4 in the second game.
Burlington returns home for a 6:30 p.m. game Tuesday against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, beginning a three-game series at Community Field.
