The Dallas Center-Grimes baseball team will be looking to redeem themselves for a 10-8 loss at the hands of Pella Christian on Friday, June 8.

The Mustangs were efficient in the game using eight hits to account for those eight runs. Bryce Jermier had one of the bigger nights for DC-G with three hits in four attempts with one RBI while fellow sophomore Logan Smith went 2-3 with five runs batted in. Justin Biegger was credited with the loss on the mound with ten runs given up on seven hits allowed but did deal three strikeouts.

Despite the loss and the 3-6 record, the Mustangs are quite positive knowing that the schedule they face is one of the hardest schedules around. Through 11 scheduled games, the Mustangs had two match ups against two top five teams in Class 4A. In all, the Mustangs will face five more ranked teams spread out across Class 3A and Class 4A.

Mustang head coach Byron Peyton spoke about the tough schedule for his team and what it does for them going forward.

“It may be easy for some to look at our record and see wins and losses but it’s more than that,” began Peyton. “It’s all about improving and the best way to do that is to play the best competition possible. Our schedule is very tough and we’ve been in every game so far this season and that tells me as a coach that the team is able to match up with some of the best. We just need to find more consistency in our game and we’ll come out with more wins.”

The Mustangs will continue with their tough schedule today as they battle it out with a conference double header against Pella. Dallas Center-Grimes has averaged four runs per game against the Dutch while allowing an an average of 5 runs per contest. The Mustangs will look to turn the tide against Pella tonight in Dallas Center with game one set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
