The MAT Tumbling and Trampoline program had the exciting opportunity to host the 2018 Iowa USTA State Championships for Power Tumbling, Olympic Trampoline, and Double Mini Trampoline at the Marshalltown High School Roundhouse on April 21st and 22nd. The MAT Team had 80 athletes competing at the State Championships event. The State Championships is the only chance for athletes to qualify for the National Championships that will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in June. The Roundhouse floor was full and buzzing both Saturday and Sunday as there were 2 trampolines and 2 double mini trampolines on Saturday, and 2 rod floors and 1 foam carpet floor on Sunday. The awards and concession area was decorated in a bright colors and palm trees to complete the beach and surfing theme as the athletes head to Florida. There were also clowns making balloon animals and a frozen ice stand for all to enjoy. MAT is excited to be taking 50 athletes to Fort Lauderdale, FL for the National Championships to see what they will accomplish both individually and as a TEAM. The MAT Team has taken first at Nationals the past three years and will be attempting an unprecedented four-pete.

In the Team competition, MAT Tumbling/Trampoline took first place for Tumbling, Double Mini Trampoline, and Trampoline and is once again the Overall Top Team in Iowa. MAT has captured the first place Tumbling Team award for over two decades. This year’s goal for the MAT Team was to come and be dominant in competition at every level and every event. The MAT athletes stepped up to that challenge and had a phenomenal weekend. MAT had 37 State Champions and 18 runner ups. MAT also had 12 High Point Winners! To be named High Point Winners, the athletes achieved the top score of anyone in their level, regardless of age. Congratulations to the following athletes in achieving high point: Tumbling: Stacey Slaven - Age Group Elite; Ella Marting - Advanced; Halie Hohnstein - Sub Advanced; Maddie Shelton -Intermediate; and Tasia Eicher - Novice.
