GRIMES — The Nevada girls’ soccer team dropped a 1-0 defensive war to Dallas Center-Grimes in a battle of ranked teams Saturday in Grimes.

The Cubs, ranked fourth in Class 1A, got off 10 shots on goal and gave up 13 to a DCG squad rated 11th in 2A. DCG’s only goal came off a corner kick around 25 minutes into the first half.

“DCG dictated the pace of the game in the first half,” Nevada head girls’ soccer coach Randy Davis said. “We changed formations in the second half and became much more aggressive in (an) attacking mode. We had some opportunities, (but) we couldn’t quite put it away.”

Jordan Cunningham was credited with DCG’s goal.

Grace Francis made 12 saves at keeper and Madison Stevens and Hattie Rhodes each fired off three shots for Nevada. Hannah Thomsen got off two shots and Amanda Fortmann and J.J. Williamson one apiece for the Cubs, who dropped to 9-3 on the season.
