Down by seven runs, the Pioneers battled back to get within one when Dylan Knoell hit a home run off the scoreboard, but regrettably that's all the closer Nebraska City would get as they lost the first round of the EMC Tournament against Waverly 9-6 on Tuesday, April, 10 at Nebraska City.
This is the third straight game that the Pioneers have lost by three runs or less.
Waverly got out to a quick lead when Treyton Kozal hit a two run HR in the first inning and a 3-0 Viking lead.
In the top half of the third, the Vikings scored four runs on three hits and were up 7-0.
Jordan Williams would put Nebraska City on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when he hit a RBI single that scored Bryce Levy. With the bases loaded and two outs, Max Chaney hit a fly ball to right field that was mis-handled by Waverly and all three runs came across to score.
Still in the third, Jace Becker reached on an error that scored Chaney from third and the Pioneers got within two.
Down 7-5 in the fourth, Dylan Knoell hit his first career home run with a shot to left centerfield that bounced off the scoreboard, but NC was still trailing 7-6 and could not get any closer as the Vikings scored two more runs to win 9-6.
Bryce Levy has been hot at the plate the last two games with a total of five hits. Tonight, Levy was 3 for 3 with two singles and a double.
