COLO - The Colo-NESCO boys’ basketball team dropped a 42-39 heartbreaker to Roland-Story Saturday in Colo.


The Royals (12-6) were outscored 24-18 in the second half after taking a 21-18 lead at the break. Roland-Story pulled even after three quarters, then moved in front at the end after limiting Colo-NESCO to seven points in the fourth quarter.


Colo-NESCO only shot 29 percent from the field. The Royals were 9 of 12 from the line and totaled 36 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards.


Matthew Hill had 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks for Colo-NESCO. Jacob Clatt finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one block.


Philip Bower added seven points and four assists for the Royals. Bryce Niemeyer chipped in three points and four rebounds and Sean Cutler three points and seven boards.

BAXTER - Colo-NESCO clinched the Iowa Star Conference South Division in dramatic fashion Jan. 30 by winning a 58-55 overtime thriller over Baxter at Baxter.


The Royals rallied from a 41-36 deficit in the fourth quarter to even things up, 52-52 and force the extra session. Defense did the job the rest of the way as Colo-NESCO went to 9-1 in the ISC South Division and 12-6 overall.


A quality shooting night helped Colo-NESCO get the win. The Royals were 23 of 40 from the field (58 percent) and made 8 of 12 free throws.


Colo-NESCO prevailed despite giving up eight 3-pointers and being outrebounded, 31-26.


The Royals’ Matthew Hill engaged in a fun battle with Will Clapper inside as both players were dominant for their respective teams.


Hill scored a game-high 27 points after making an impressive 12 of 16 field goals. He also pulled down eight rebounds and had three assists, two blocks and one steal.


Clapper posted a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. He was 10 of 11 from the line and added two blocks and steals apiece.


Sean Cutler and Jacob Clatt each scored 10 points for Colo-NESCO. Cutler also dished out eight assists and Clatt finished with four rebounds and two blocks.


Philip Bower chipped in seven points, six assists and five rebounds and Mason Lytle had three points and two steals for the Royals.


Baxter dropped to 10-8 overall and 8-2 in the ISC South Division with the loss. Travis Lindemoen added 15 points and five assists and Cole Damman 14 points and four assists for the Bolts.
