GUTHRIE CENTER - The Nevada wrestling team had one wrestler place and two more get into the win column at the Charger Invitational Saturday in Guthrie Center.


Cale Dumbaugh came in fifth at 126 pounds with a 3-2 record for Nevada. Emilio Saldana went 2-2 at 138 and Jacob MacVey got one victory at 170.


As a team, Nevada tied with Griswold for 18th out of 21 teams with 22 points. Clarion-Goldfield won the team title with 233 points and Panorama came in second with a score of 192.


Dumbaugh went 3-2 on the day.


In the first round, Dumbaugh pinned Griswold’s John Seyler in one minute, 51 seconds and in the quarterfinals, he lost by a 13-2 major decision to Panorama’s Danny Nordquist. Dumbaugh stuck ACGC’s Easton Benson in 1:57 during the consolation second round, and then lost by fall to AHSTW’s Jaeden Rassmussen during the consolation third round.


That pitted Dumbaugh against Southeast Valley’s Sam Hemmestad in the fifth-place match. Dumbaugh prevailed by fall in 2:53 to put his season record at 19-13.


Saldana opened the tournament by pinning AHSTW’s Carter Phippen in 1:35. Saldana lost by a 10-1 major decision to East Union’s Matthew Wittstock in the quarterfinals, but came back with a pin over Underwood’s Riley Stafford in just 28 seconds.


Saldana concluded the tournament by dropping a 10-6 decision to Greene County’s Will Hansen in the consolation second round.


MacVey finished 1-2. He was pinned by Southeast Warren’s T.J. Dierking, rebounded to stick Underwood’s Keegan Pinchot in 1:13, then lost by fall to Woodward-Granger’s Cale Pritchett.

OGDEN - Nevada had an impressive showing at Ogden Jan. 25 as the Cubs went 2-1 at a quadrangular dual with Ogden, South Hamilton and Iowa Falls-Alden.


Nevada avenged an earlier loss to Ogden with a 48-31 victory over the Bulldogs. The Cubs edged South Hamilton by a 36-30 score and fell to Iowa Falls-Alden, 54-16, to put their season dual record at 6-13.


A great start enabled Nevada to get past Ogden. The Cubs built a 36-0 lead after winning the first six matches, and cruised to victory.


Max Hovar pinned Ogden’s Bryant Dutcher in one minute, 14 seconds at 285, Luis Lopez stuck Dominick Degeneffe in 5:52 at 106 and Cale Dumbaugh ousted Avery McCloud in 1:16 at 126 to help get Nevada off to its hot start. Luke Durkop (220), Zach Stinn (113) and Sam Steele (120) also received early forfeits for the Cubs.


Emilio Saldana and Jay Calentine each delivered a fall to round out the scoring for Nevada. Saldana took care of Ogden’s Nicolas Aradilla-Macias in 4:19 at 145 and Calentine pinned Justus Rude in 30 seconds at 160.


Nevada benefited from four forfeit victories against South Hamilton.


Saldana and Rodrigo Perez (152) each picked up a pin to account for Nevada’s points earned on the mat against the Hawks. Saldana took out Trevor Thompson in 3:50 and Perez whipped Ethan Young in just 41 seconds.


Durkop, Dominick Garcia (106), Steele (126) and Dumbaugh (132) received the Cub forfeit wins.


Nevada managed one win by fall and another by major decision in the loss to Iowa Falls-Alden.


Calentine stuck the Cadets’ Kyler Hadwiger in 3:23 and Lopez knocked off Jackson Kobe by an 11-2 score. Steele also received a forfeit for the Cubs at 120.

ROLAND - Nevada used a strong finish to get past Roland-Story, 42-33, for its fourth dual victory of the season Jan. 23 at Roland.


The Cubs improved to 4-12 after ending the dual with two pins and a win by forfeit.


Rodrigo Perez pinned Roland-Story’s Max Halstead in three minutes, 13 seconds at 152 pounds and Jay Calentine stuck the Norsemen’s Jackson Sterle in 50 seconds at 160. There was a double forfeit at 170 and Jacob MacVey received a forfeit at 182 for Nevada to close things out.


Cale Dumbaugh added a win by fall for the Cubs at 126. Dumbaugh took out Lucas Risdal in 1:27.


Luke Durkop (220), Zach Stinn (113) and Sam Steele (120) all received forfeits for Nevada.
