DES MOINES - The Nevada boys’ basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with a convincing 74-43 victory over Saydel Friday at Saydel High School in Des Moines.


The Cubs came out on fire in their first game back from Christmas break. They jumped out to a 15-point lead after one quarter, and by halftime held a 45-20 advantage to raise their record to 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.


Nevada shot at a strong 53-percent clip from the field and made six 3-pointers. The Cubs also did an awesome job on the boards, finishing with 40 total rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end.


The Cubs also tallied 16 steals and nine blocks defensively.


Trent Stahl and Om’Unique Wilkerson led a balanced Cub attack with 11 points apiece. Stahl also had three assists and steals apiece and Wilkerson finished with six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals.


Jack Higgins added 10 points and two blocks and Tyler Sansgaard hit two 3-pointers and tallied 10 points, three assists and two steals. Jakob Strottman just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, Devin See had six points and four steals and Luke Merfeld delivered six points and three blocks.
