GRIMES - The Nevada wrestling team had one wrestler place second and two more finish in the top eight at the Mustang Invitational in Grimes Saturday.
Lukas Durkop won silver for Nevada at 220 pounds. Cale Dumbaugh came in fourth at 126 and Emilio Saldana eighth. Nevada only had five wrestlers compete, tying for 14th place with Greene County after each team scored 41 points.
Durkop went 3-1.
In the first round, Durkop pinned Creston/Orient-Macksburg’s Kendall Crawford in five minutes, 51 seconds and he followed that up by winning a tough 6-4 decision over Des Moines East’s Adam March. In the semifinals, Durkop pulled off an exciting 3-1 win by sudden victory over Webster City’s Alex Wolfgram.
Durkop put up a good fight in the finals against Adel-Desoto-Minburn’s Kaden Sutton before falling by a 9-4 decision.
Dumbaugh went 2-2 on the day.
Dumbaugh pinned Prairie City-Monroe’s Clay VanWyk in 3:02 and I-35’s Evan Woosley in 2:43. Dumbaugh lost in the semifinals to Ankeny Centennial’s Ben Monroe by fall in the semifinals, then dropped the third-place match by fall to Creston/Orient-Macksburg.
Saldana went 1-3 during the tournament. His victory came in the consolation second round by an 8-3 decision over Oskaloosa’s Andrew Else.
Ankeny Centennial was crowned the team champion of the tournament with 214.5 points. Webster City came in second with a score of 199.

KNOXVILLE - Nevada struggled in the heavier weight classes against Knoxville in a 50-30 dual loss to the Panthers Nov. 28 at Knoxville.
All five Nevada victories came at weights under 152 pounds. The Cubs picked up two pins and received three forfeits in their opening dual of the season.
Cale Dumbaugh stuck Knoxville’s Kameron Butler in 39 seconds at 126 and Emilio Saldana took down Nash Linsley in 4:51 at 145 for Nevada’s two victories on the mat. Dominick Garcia (106), Kyle Dieter (113) and Sam Steele (132) each received a forfeit for the Cubs.
Nevada suffered five losses by fall and one by technical fall. Lukas Durkop fought hard at 220 for the Cubs before dropping a 10-3 decision to Knoxville’s Chase Bellon.
Nevada also gave up two losses by forfeit.
