EAGLE GROVE - The Colo-NESCO boys put one runner in the top 50 and the Royal girls had an individual finish just outside the top 50 at the Class 1A state qualifying cross country meet in Eagle Grove Oct. 19.


Cole Dulaney placed 46th in the boys’ race for Colo-NESCO. The Royal boys ended up 16th out of 20 scored teams with 444 points.


Dulaney completed the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 30.28 seconds. Ryan Wonders came in 105th at 21:50.78, Luke Hill 111th in 22:04.29, Chevy Dunlap 114th in 22:11.92 and Jacob Reischauer 129th in 23:18.50 as the other runners to score for the Royal boys.


Scott Miller also competed for the Colo-NESCO boys, placing 145th in 27:36.14.


A Madrid team rated No. 11 won the boys’ team title with 52 points. Third-ranked South Winneshiek took second with 68 and No. 15 Ogden was the final team to qualify for state with 85 points.


North Union’s Riley Bauer — the No. 1 runner in 1A — was the boys’ individual champion with a time of 16:12.31. Third-ranked Sean McDermott of Madrid came in second at 16:54.74.


In the 1A girls’ race, Colo-NESCO scored 457 points to place 19th. Alexis Britten was the top individual runner for the Royal girls as she ran a 5-kilometer time of 23:42.53 to finish 51st.


Faith Vincent came in 80th at 25:10.78 as the second runner to cross the finish line for the Colo-NESCO girls. Shelby Smith placed 119th in 28:30.18, Jenna Banks 126th in 30:40.14 and Emily Brinkman 132nd in 32:11.14 to round out the Royal scoring.


Emma Stalzer also ran for the Colo-NESCO girls. Stalzer ended up 138th in 33:59.84.


Third-ranked South Winneshiek won the girls’ title with 70 points, No. 14 Eagle Grove took second with a score of 108 and 12th-ranked Newman Catholic was the final team to qualify for state after scoring 119 points.


South Winneshiek’s Felicity Taylor — the No. 3 runner in 1A — won the girls’ race at Eagle Grove with a time of 19:45.54. Clarksville’s Kori Wedeking, rated No. 21, came in second with a time of 20:23.08.
