WAVERLY - The Nevada volleyball team split six matches at the Waverly-Shell Rock Invitational Saturday in Waverly.

The Cubs (19-13) defeated Solon, Crestwood and Union and came up short against Waverly-Shell Rock, Osage and Mount Vernon.

In pool play, Nevada downed Solon by scores of 21-19 and 21-9. Kacie Rewerts put up seven kills, three digs, one block and one ace; Amanda Fortmann 15 assists, six digs, three aces and two kills and Kelby Rewerts four kills, two digs and one block for the Cubs in the win.

Hattie Rhodes chipped in four blocks, three kills, two digs and one ace; Madison Thompson three kills, three blocks and one dig and Katie Sullivan two kills, two blocks and one assist. Morgan Tupper added five digs and two assists, Maddie Stevens four digs and Ellie Gray three digs.

The Cubs also whipped Crestwood by 21-14 and 21-12 decisions during pool play. Kacie Rewerts delivered eight kills, three blocks and three digs; Fortmann 16 assists, five digs, two aces and one kill; Rhodes five kills seven digs and two blocks and Tupper eight digs, one kill and one ace in the win.

Kelby Rewerts put up two kills and three digs, Sullivan two kills and one block and Thompson one kill. Stevens added five digs and one assist, Hannah Thomsen two digs and Gray one assist.

Nevada came up short in its other two matches during pool play against ranked Waverly-Shell Rock and Mount Vernon squads.

Waverly-Shell Rock — rated No. 3 in Class 4A — handed the Cubs 21-9 and 21-14 setbacks.

Sullivan had three kills and one block; Fortmann six assists; Kacie Rewerts two kills, three digs, two aces and one block; Thompson two kills, two digs and one ace and Kelby Rewerts two kills versus the Go-Hawks. Tupper added three digs and two assists, Stevens two digs and Rhodes one assist.

Mount Vernon — rated No. 4 in 3A — topped the Cubs by a 21-12 score in the opening set. Nevada put up a great fight in the second, but fell by a 23-21 decision to drop the match.

Kacie Rewerts stepped up with 11 digs, eight kills and three blocks versus Mount Vernon. Rhodes had four kills, Kelby Rewerts three kills and digs apiece, Thompson two kills and one dig and Sullivan one kill and one block.

Fortmann contributed 18 assists and one dig, block and ace apiece versus Mount Vernon. Tupper led Nevada in the back row with 10 digs, Stevens totaled seven, Gray two and Thomsen one.

In the championship round, Nevada swept Union, 25-19 and 25-21, and suffered 25-17 and 25-18 setbacks to Osage. Osage is ranked No. 7 in 3A.

Sullivan had four kills and three blocks; Mikayla Long four kills and one block; Fortmann 14 assists, three digs, two aces, one kill and one block and Tupper 11 digs and two kills for Nevada in the win over Union. Rhodes added seven blocks and two kills; Thompson three blocks, two kills, one dig and one ace; Kelby Rewerts four digs, one kill and one assist; Thomsen six digs and one ace and Gray four digs.

Against Osage, Kelby Rewerts finished with five kills; Rhodes four kills, one block and one assist; Thompson four kills, one block and one dig and Sullivan four kills. Fortmann added 17 assists, two digs, one kill and one block; Tupper 10 digs, two kills, two assists and one ace; Long two kills and digs apiece; Stevens four digs, Gray three digs and one ace and Thomsen one dig and one ace.

MONROE - Nevada quickly disposed of Prairie City-Monroe to remain perfect in the Heart of Iowa Conference Sept. 26 at Monroe.

The Cubs swept the Mustangs by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-10 to push their HOIC record to 4-0.

Nevada had a strong .259 kill-efficiency rate with 28 kills and six errors in 85 attacks. The Cubs also racked up an impressive 19 aces serving the ball and they had 43 digs and four blocks defensively.

Kacie Rewerts, Kelby Rewerts and Hattie Rhodes each tallied seven kills for Nevada. Kacie also had seven aces, four digs and one assist; Kelby three aces and Rhodes four aces, two blocks and two digs.

Madison Thompson tacked on four kills and three digs; Mikayla Long four aces, three digs and one kill and and Katie Sullivan two blocks, one kill and one dig. Amanda Fortmann chimed in with 22 assists, six digs and one kill; Hannah Thomsen nine digs, one assist and one ace; Morgan Tupper six digs and one assist; Ellie Gray five digs and Maddie Stevens four digs.
