STORY CITY - The Colo-NESCO girls had two runners place in the top 40 at the Norsemen Invitational Sept. 21 at the Riverbend Golf Course in Story City.


Alexis Britten and Faith Vincent both finished in the top 40 for the Royal girls. Colo-NESCO ended up 10th out of 11 teams with 240 points.


Britten took 21st with a 5-kilometer time of 23 minutes, 40 seconds. Vincent came in 38th at 25:04.


Shelby Smith took 86th in 28:47, Emily Brinkman 99th in 30:03 and Claire Skinner 104th at 30:16 as the other runners to score for Colo-NESCO. Jenna Banks ended up 118th in 32:34 and Emma Stalzer 129th with a 34:36 showing to finish up the Royals’ varsity competition.


North Polk won the girls’ team title with 22 points. The Comets’ Amelia Lesher, Emily Patterson, and Sophie Blanchard were the top three individual runners with respective times of 20:40, 21:22 and 21:37.


Colo-NESCO only had four runners compete in the boys’ race and thus were not eligible for team scoring.


Luke Hill was the top runner for the Royal boys with a 116th-place 5-kilometer time of 22:01. Ryan Wonders came in 167th at 23:28, Jacob Reischauer 191st at 24:37 and Chevy Dunlap 192nd in 24:40.


Bondurant-Farrar won the boys’ team title with 58 points and Madrid came in second with a score of 99.


Madrid’s Sean McDermott was the boys’ individual champion with a time of 16:42 and Bondurant-Farrar’s Drake Vanbaale was right behind him with a 16:43 showing.

STATE CENTER - The Colo-NESCO girls had one runner finish in the top 10 and the Royal boys placed one in the top 20 at the West Marshall Invitational Sept. 19 in State Center.


Alexis Britten came in seventh for the Colo-NESCO girls and Cole Dulaney took 17th to lead the boys. Faith Vincent also placed in the top 20 for the girls after finishing 14th.


Britten ran a 5-kilometer time of 23 minutes, 19.30 seconds. Her time was just over two minutes off the winning effort of 21:16.76 by West Marshall’s Avril Sinning.


Vincent clocked in at 24:57.10. Shelby Smith was the third runner to finish for the Colo-NESCO girls, running 28:57.63 to place 34th.


Emily Brinkman took 37th in 31:38.24 and Claire Skinner 38th in 31:39.27 as the other runners to pick up points for the Royal girls. Jenna Banks 41st at 33:14.59 and Emma Stalzer came in 43rd as the team’s sixth and seventh runners with a time of 35:02.26.


The Colo-NESCO girls ended up fifth in the team standings with 103 points. West Marshall won with 36 points, Baxter scored 49 to take second, Collins-Maxwell came in third with a score of 78 and South Hamilton placed fifth with 85 points.


In the boys’ competition, Colo-NESCO scored 167 points to finish seventh behind Ankeny Christian Academy’s score of 109. South Hamilton won the boys’ championship with 32 points and West Marshall came in second with a score of 94.


Dulaney ran the team’s fastest 5-kilometer time in 20:09.12. Ryan Wonders came in 34th at 22:27.61, Luke Hill 36th in 22:38.43, Chevy Dunlap 43rd in 23:46.94 and Jacob Reischauer 53rd in 24:50.45.


Scott Miller also ran varsity for the Royal boys, placing 64th in 32:08.15.


South Hamilton’s Josiah Brown won the boys’ race in 17:33.36. BCLUW’s Caleb Silver claimed the silver medal in 17:38.71.
