COLFAX - The Colo-NESCO girls placed seventh and the Royal boys came in eighth at the Tigerhawk Invitational cross country meet Sept. 7 at the Colfax Golf Course.


“I was happy with the way everyone ran last night,” Colo-NESCO head cross country coach Tony Stalzer said. “I felt that the Colfax-Mingo course was challenging, but everyone ran better times than last week. We still have some work to do to get better. We are going to put our heads down and work hard these next three to four weeks and see where we are at.”


The Royal girls scored 163 points to end up 43 points behind Pleasantville’s sixth-place score. Baxter won the girls’ title with 46 points, Lynnville-Sully claimed second with 68, Clarke scored 81 points for third, Colfax-Mingo took fourth with 84 points and Collins-Maxwell placed fifth with a score of 99.


Alexis Britten turned in another outstanding individual race as the lead runner for the Colo-NESCO girls. Britten’s 5-kilometer time of 23 minutes, 45.71 second put her in 11th place overall.


Baxter’s Brenna Thomson won the girls’ race in 20:58.34 and Colfax-Mingo’s Abbey McConeghey placed second with a 21:46.54 effort.


Faith Vincent was the second Colo-NESCO runner to cross the finish line. Vincent placed 28th in 26:20.45. Shelby Smith came in 50th at 29:19.29, Claire Skinner was 51st in 29:27.24 and Emily Brinkman took 54th with a 30:02.96 showing to complete the Royal scoring.


Emma Stalzer also ran varsity for the Royals. She placed 62nd in 34:45.53.


The boys’ competition saw Colo-NESCO score 192 points to finish 15 points in back of Pleasantville’s seventh-place effort.


Woodward Academy dominated the boys’ race with a score of 26 and Saydel took second with 60 points. Baxter scored 83 points to place third, Collins-Maxwell came in fourth with 105 points, Colfax-Mingo was fifth with 141 points and Clarke scored 173 points to finish sixth.


Cole Dulaney ran the best 5-kilometer time for the Colo-NESCO boys. Dulaney crossed the finish line in 21:08.53 to place 28th.


Luke Hill took 52nd in 23:49.87 and Ryan Wonders clocked in at 24:03.22 as to place 56th as the second and third runners for the Royal boys. Jacob Reischauer took 69th in 25:29.58 and Chevy Dunlap completed the team’s scoring with a 70th-place time of 25:30.50.


Scott Miller also competed for the Colo-NESCO boys. Miller came in 82nd at 29:08.32.


Baxter’s Ian Thomson and Logan Berg were the top individual runners in the boys’ race. Thomson won in 17:36.87 and Berg crossed the finish line in 18:05.02.
