ZEARING - The Colo-Nesco baseball team saw everything fall apart late in a 17-2 non-conference loss to Colfax-Mingo in five innings July 5 at Zearing.
The Royals and Tigerhawks were tied at 2-2 after two innings. Colfax-Mingo moved in front by a 5-2 score after four, then blew the game open with a huge 12-run fifth inning.
Jacob Clatt was 2-for-2 with a solo home run and Philip Bower 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI for Colo-Nesco in the loss. Sean Cutler also singled, Matthew Hill scored one run and Garret Tiarks walked twice.
Hill allowed five runs on five hits and walks apiece and he also had five strikeouts in three innings as the losing Royal pitcher. Sean Cutler threw one inning and Bryce Niemeyer and Brighton Clatt each tossed ⅓ of an inning.
The loss put Colo-Nesco at 7-19-1. Colfax-Mingo improved to 16-5.
Zarek Hill was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs, two steals and three RBI and Jarod Nichols 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBI to lead Colfax-Mingo on offense. Trystin Ross allowed one run with two strikeouts and no walks in two innings as the winning Tigerhawk pitcher.
