TRIPOLI - The Colo-Nesco baseball team scored two runs in the seventh inning to take down Tripoli, 5-3, for an Iowa Star Conference road win Friday at Tripoli


The Royals broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh. Pitcher Bryce Niemeyer then blanked the Panthers in the bottom of the inning to finish off the win as Colo-Nesco improved to 7-18-1 overall and finished 5-12-1 in the ISC.


Colo-Nesco scored its first two runs in the third inning and added another score in the fifth. Tripoli put up one run apiece in the second, fifth and sixth innings.


Niemeyer gave up just one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts and walks apiece, going the distance to earn the win for the Royals. He also drove in one run on offense.


Matthew Hill was 2-for-3 with a double, walk, steal, two runs and an RBI and Kelly Gray went 2-for-4 with a run and two steals to lead Colo-Nesco on offense. Sean Cutler went 1-for-3 with a walk, steal and two RBI; Garret Tiarks was 1-for-4 with a run; Philip Bower went 1-for-4 with an RBI and Garrett Packer walked and scored.

ZEARING - A late surge wasn’t enough for Colo-Nesco in a 13-8 non-conference loss to BCLUW June 29 at Zearing.


The Royals put up five runs in the bottom of the seventh after falling behind 13-3 to make the Comets sweat it out. Colo-Nesco fell to 6-18-1 with the setback.


Colo-Nesco scored its first three runs in the fourth inning. BCLUW scored once in the first and seventh frames, twice in the fourth and three times apiece in the third, fifth and sixth innings.


Jacob Clatt was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI and Mason Lytle ended up 1-for-3 with a walk, steal, two runs and an RBI for Colo-Nesco at the plate. Matthew Hill was 2-for-4 with a run, Philip Bower went 2-for-4 and Kelly Gray singled, scored and drove in a run.


Garret Tiarks added one base hit, Bryce Niemeyer walked and scored and Sean Cutler crossed the plate once for the Royals.


Lytle was the losing pitcher after giving up nine runs — five earned — on eight hits with five walks and one strikeout in four innings. Clatt allowed four runs — three earned — on four hits with five walks in 2 ⅓ innings and Bower threw a scoreless ⅔ of an inning with two walks and one strikeout.

ZEARING - A tough first inning and a lack of consistency on offense hurt Colo-Nesco in a 13-3 loss to CAL June 28 in Zearing.


The Royals gave up seven runs in the first inning. By the time they got on the board, CAL had a 9-0 lead.


All three Colo-Nesco runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Royals finished with eight hits and five walks, compared to the Cadets’ nine hits and seven free passes.


Matthew Hill was 3-for-4 with a run and a steal and Sean Cutler went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for Colo-Nesco. Garret Tiarks was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, steal, run and RBI and Philip Bower doubled, walked, stole two bases and scored.


Brighton Clatt took the loss after giving up seven runs — four earned — on six hits and two walks in one inning. Hill allowed three runs — two earned — on three hits and walks apiece with seven strikeouts in six innings and Ryan Banks surrendered two earned runs with three walks.


Nate Rapp allowed two earned runs with 13 strikeouts and five walks as the winning CAL pitcher. Rapp also doubled twice and scored and drove in three runs apiece, and Ben Rapp was 2-for-4 with a run and four RBI for the Cadets.

DUNKERTON - Colo-Nesco had no answers on the mound or in the field versus Dunkerton in a 17-7 loss to the Raiders in six innings June 26 at Dunkerton.


Dunkerton scored in all six innings. The Raiders led 9-1 after three innings, scored twice in the fourth and put the game away with a five-run fifth.


Sean Cutler was 2-for-4 with a double, run and three RBI and Philip Bower was 2-for-3 with a steal and two RBI for Colo-Nesco in the loss. Matthew Hill went 2-for-4 with a run and a steal, Garret Tiarks singled and scored, Garrett Packer ended up 1-for-3 and Kelly Gray walked and scored.


Bryce Niemeyer, Jacob Clatt and Mason Lytle each scored one run for the Royals. Niemeyer was the losing pitcher as he gave up eight runs — five earned — on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 2 ⅔ innings.


Brad Rottinghaus struck out six with one walk, going all six innings to get the win for Dunkerton. Kaleb Cox was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI and Ben Reams, Holden Gillespie and Trace Johnson each drove in two runs for the Raiders.
