STATE CENTER - Back-to-back amazing innings on offense lifted Colo-Nesco past Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, and the Royals came up short against Pleasantville at the Rose Festival Invitational Saturday in State Center.
The game against CMB was all about offense. The two teams combined for 34 runs, with Colo-Nesco prevailing by a 22-12 score in six innings.
The Royals (2-9-1) came out on top despite falling behind 8-1. They erupted for a stunning 12-run outburst in the fifth inning and nearly matched that in the sixth by pushing nine more runs across the plate in a second amazing display of offensive prowess.
Jacob Clatt hit a grand-slam home run and Garret Tiarks went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two steals, walks and RBI apiece to lead Colo-Nesco’s 14-hit attack against CMB. Mason Lytle went 3-for-4 with three runs and two steals; Matthew Hill was 2-for-5 with three runs, four RBI and one steal; Sean Cutler ended up 2-for-4 with two runs, steals and RBI apiece and Philip Bower finished 2-for-5 with three runs.
Parker Eley walked twice, scored two times and added a pair of steals and an RBI. Kelly Gray was 1-for-4 with a pair of walks, runs and RBI apiece; Ethan Wilson crossed the plate twice and stole a base and Garrett Packer walked and drove in a run.
Cutler allowed four unearned runs with two walks and one strikeout in 2 ⅓ innings to get the win in relief. Hill started on the mound for the Royals and he gave up eight runs — three earned — with three strikeouts and walks apiece in 3 ⅔ innings.
Adam Smith gave up seven runs — three earned — with three walks in ⅓ of an inning as the losing pitcher for CMB. Brady Kemp went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBI and Brady Ross doubled, scored four times and drove in two runs for the Raiders on offense.
CMB was dealt a 14-1 loss by Pleasantville in five innings. The Royals gave up seven runs in the first inning and never recovered.
Colo-Nesco’s lone score against Pleasantville came in the top of the first inning. The Royals ended the game with just three hits.
Gray singled, stole a base and scored the Royal run. Cutler had one RBI, Tiarks and Bryce Niemeyer each singled once and Banks drew one free pass.
Owen Worthington doubled, tripled and scored twice and Brandon Gibson and Caleb Adreon each drove in three runs for Pleasantville. Worthington was the winning pitcher after giving up one run with six strikeouts and one walk in four innings.

ZEARING - Colo-Nesco didn’t take advantage of enough opportunities on offense in an 11-3 loss to Tripoli Friday in Zearing.
The Royals had nine hits, including four doubles. But they only could come up with one run in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Tripoli, by contrast, had four innings of two runs or more, despite finishing with just one more hit than Colo-Nesco.
Sean Cutler was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI; Matthew Hill went 2-for-3 with a double and a run; Kelly Gray doubled, walked, scored and drove in a run and Garret Tiarks doubled and scored for the Royals. Jacob Clatt, Mason Lytle and Ryan Banks each singled once and Garrett Packer drew one walk.
Lytle was the losing pitcher. He gave up four runs, three earned, on three hits with six walks and one strikeout in 2 ⅓ innings. Cutler didn’t allow a run on three hits with one strikeout and walk apiece in 1 ⅔ innings, Gray gave up six runs on four hits in 1 ⅔ innings and Hill surrendered one run with one walk in 1 ⅓ frames.
The loss put Colo-Nesco at 1-7-1 in the Iowa Star Conference.

LATIMER - Colo-Nesco couldn’t shake a rough stretch in the fifth inning against CAL in a 4-1 loss to the Cadets June 7 at Latimer.
The game was a scoreless tie going into the bottom of the fifth. The Cadets scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the inning and the Royals could only muster one run in the sixth, suffering their sixth Iowa Star Conference loss.
Jacob Clatt doubled and drove in a run and Matthew Hill singled and scored for the Royals. Kelly Gray and Mason Lytle each singled once and Sean Cutler came up with one steal.
Bryce Niemeyer went six innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts in a losing effort on the mound.
Kainan Braun struck out nine and walked one in seven innings to get the victory for CAL. Nate Rapp doubled, tripled, scored twice and drove in three runs for the Cadets on offense.

ZEARING - Colo-Nesco started slow and hit a real tough stretch in the fourth inning against Dunkerton in a 15-1 loss to the Raiders in five innings June 5 at Zearing.
The Royals gave up eight runs over the first two innings. Dunkerton then busted out seven more runs in the fifth inning to put the game away.
Colo-Nesco scored its only run in the first inning. The Royals finished with five hits.
Garret Tiarks doubled and scored, Sean Cutler went 2-for-3, Matthew Hill singled and walked and Bryce Niemeyer ended up 1-for-2 on offense for Colo-Nesco. Kelly Gray added two steals.
Mason Lytle gave up one run on no hits with three strikeouts and one walk in 1 ⅓ innings to take the loss for the Royals.
Hill gave up five earned runs on four hits and three walks in 1 ⅓ innings. Cutler also allowed five earned runs on four hits and he had four walks in 2 ⅓ innings.
Brad Rottinghaus allowed one unearned run with six strikeouts and one walk in five innings to get the win for Dunkerton. Kaleb Cox doubled, scored three times and drove in two runs; Jackson Hoeft was 2-for-2 with a home, two runs and three RBI and Trace Johnson also knocked in three runs for the Raiders.
