MCCALLSBURG - Big hits were the norm for the Colo-Nesco softball team in a 13-1 victory over Tripoli Friday in McCallsburg.


The Royals connected for nine extra-base hits, pounding the Panthers to improve to 7-6 overall and 7-3 in the Iowa Star Conference. Colo-Nesco jumped out to a 4-0 lead, then dropped six runs in the fourth inning to put the game away.


Rylee Purvis doubled, homered, walked, and scored and drove in three runs apiece to lead an explosive Royal attack that produced seven doubles and two home runs. Chelsea Henze and Kassie Robinson both doubled twice and knocked in three runs and Gracie Kettwig doubled, homered and drove in two runs.


Mackenna Ruffcorn also doubled and scored twice, Megan Carlson went 1-for-2 with a run and Molly Barten walked and singled. Grace Stalzer walked and scored, Rylie Reischauer crossed the plate twice and Ayvarie Bappe scored once.


Ruffcorn surrendered four hits and struck out four with one walk in five innings to get the win.

LATIMER - A big night by freshman Rylee Purvis led Colo-Nesco to a 9-0 victory over CAL in Iowa Star Conference play June 7 at Latimer.


Purvis went 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, three runs, two RBI and a steal. She also threw a shutout on the mound, tossing a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk.


Mackenna Ruffcorn, too, doubled twice for the Royals and she knocked in three runs. Grace Stalzer was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run, Megan Carson finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and Kassie Robinson singled, scored and drove in one run.


Chelsea Henze singled, walked and knocked in a run; Gracie Kettwig went 1-for-2 with a walk; Molly Barten singled and scored and McKenzie Niemeyer was 1-for-1 with a steal. Rylie Reischauer scored twice and Claire Skinner stole one base.

STATE CENTER - It was tough sledding for Colo-Nesco against No. 14 (Class 2A) West Marshall June 6 in State Center as the Royals suffered a 14-1 defeat in four innings.


West Marshall scored at least three runs in all four innings of play. The Trojans pounded out 14 hits and hurler Kallie Malloy limited Colo-Nesco to just three hits.


Chelsea Henze was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Grace Stalzer doubled and scored for the Royals at the plate. Mackenna Ruffcorn gave up 10 runs — four earned — on 10 hits with two walks and one strikeout in two innings to take the loss and Kassie Robinson allowed four runs on four hits with two strikeouts and walks apiece in two innings of relief.


Malloy finished with six strikeouts and no walks in four innings to earn the victory. Brooke Snider went 4-for-4 with a double, homer, four runs and three RBI to pace the Trojans on offense.

MCCALLSBURG - Dominant pitching and a potent start on offense enabled Colo-Nesco to roll past Dunkerton by a 10-0 score in five innings June 5 at McCallsburg.


Rylee Purvis tossed a one-hitter with three strikeouts and one walk to get the shutout victory. Lauryn Hill was 3-for-3 with two runs and a steal; Kassie Robinson went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI; Chelsea Henze ended up 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI and Mackenna Ruffcorn doubled, scored and drove in a run for the Royals on offense.


Grace Stalzer ended up 2-for-3 with a steal, two runs and an RBI; Gracie Kettwig finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and Purvis singled, scored and drove in a run. Claire Skinner walked, stole a base and scored a run and Molly Barten drew one walk for the Royals.


Kayla Rathe allowed three earned runs with two strikeouts and one walk in four innings to take the loss for Dunkerton.
