JANESVILLE - The Colo-Nesco baseball team was only able to put one good inning together in an 11-4 loss at Janesville Friday.


The Royals scored all four of their runs in the top of the third inning. That pulled them within one after Janesville put two runs up in the first inning and three in the second.


But Janesville answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Wildcats added four more unanswered scored over the next three innings to pull away.


Colo-Nesco dropped to 1-5-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the Iowa Star Conference. Ryan Banks gave up three earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks in one inning to take the loss for the Royals.


Brighton Clatt surrendered four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and walks apiece in four innings and Shawn Gilbert allowed two runs on three walks in one inning. Jacob Clatt, Garret Tiarks and Sean Cutler each collected two hits for Colo-Nesco on offense, with Clatt also driving in two runs and Cutler scoring once.


Mason Lytle added a double, run and two RBI, Matthew Hill walked, stole a base and scored and Kelly Gray walked and scored.


Spencer Hoff was the winning pitcher and he also did most of the damage on offense for Janesville.


Hoff gave up four runs with seven walks and six strikeouts in five innings. At the plate he was a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and four RBI.

ZEARING - Colo-Nesco had trouble stringing hits together in a 4-2 loss to Clarksville June 1 at Zearing.


The Royals only had three hits all game. They scored once in the first inning and their second run didn’t come until the seventh.


Clarksville put up one run in the first and another in the third. The Indians added a little cushion to their lead in the fifth with two more runs.


Kelly Gray singled, stole a base and scored twice and Sean Cutler singled and drove in two runs for Colo-Nesco. Jacob Clatt added one hit.


Bryce Niemeyer took the loss after giving up four runs - two earned - on four hits and three walks in 4 ⅓ innings. Gray tossed 2 ⅔ scoreless innings and gave up three hits and one walk with one strikeout.


Dakota Garretson and Chris Behrends each drove in two runs and Tanner Gilbert stole two bases and scored twice for Clarksville. Behrends was the winning pitcher after allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

RICEVILLE - Colo-Nesco rallied for its first victory in one game and had to settle for a rare tie in the other during a doubleheader at Riceville May 31.


Colo-Nesco defeated Riceville by a 10-9 score in the opener. The Royals trailed 9-7 going into the sixth inning.


Colo-Nesco tied the game with two runs in the sixth then pushed the winning run across in the seventh.


Jacob Clatt and Sean Cutler each went 4-for-5 with a double and they combined for five RBI to pace Colo-Nesco’s 19-hit attack. Mason Lytle went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and two RBI; Garret Tiarks finished 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs; Kelly Gray went 2-for-5 with two runs and a steal and Matthew Hill ended up 2-for-3 with a double, walk, run and RBI.


Bryce Niemeyer gave up one hit and struck out two with no walks in 1 ⅓ innings of relief to get the win for the Royals. Cutler allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits with five walks and three strikeouts in 5 ⅔ innings as the Royal starter.


Ryan Larsen surrendered three runs with five strikeouts and one walk in 2 ⅔ innings of relief as the losing Riceville pitcher. Tommy Bauer went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs and Kyle Bauer was 3-for-5 with a double, three runs and an RBI for the Wildcats at the plate.


The second game was called after seven innings with the score still tied at 5-5 due to darkness.


Colo-Nesco came back from a 5-0 deficit to tie the score. The Royals scored three times in the sixth and twice in the seventh.


Hill went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs, Brighton Clatt singled, walked and drove in two runs and Jacob Clatt singled and drove in a run. Cutler scored twice and Niemeyer knocked in a run.


Hill allowed five runs - three earned - on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts in six innings. Shawn Gilbert gave up one hit in a scoreless inning of relief.


Tommy Bauer gave up three runs with seven strikeouts and five walks and Swancutt surrendered two runs with one strikeout and walk apiece in one inning for Riceville in the second game. John Miller knocked in two runs and Kyler Bauer scored twice.
