JANESVILLE - The Colo-Nesco softball team didn’t get it going offensively until it was too late against Janesville in a 10-5 loss to the Wildcats Friday at Janesville.


The Royals only scored one run over the first six innings. By that time, Janesville had built a commanding 10-1 lead.


Chelsea Henze was 2-for-3 with a double, walk and three RBI and Rylee Purvis went 2-for-4 with one run and RBI apiece for Colo-Nesco on offense. Mackenna Ruffcorn ended up 1-for-4 with one run and RBI apiece, Grace Stalzer singled, walked and scored and Gracie Kettwig went 1-for-3 with a walk.


Megan Carson drew two walks and Rylie Reischauer scored a pair of runs for the Royals.


Ruffcorn was the losing pitcher. She allowed five runs — four earned — on four hits with six walks and one strikeout in four innings. Kassie Robinson also allowed five runs and four earned runs on four hits with three walks in two innings of work.


The loss put Colo-Nesco at 4-5 overall and 4-3 in the Iowa Star Conference.

MCCALLSBURG - Colo-Nesco couldn’t find a way to slow down an undefeated Clarksville team in a 12-2 loss to the Indians in five innings June 1 at McCallsburg.


Clarksville scored in all five innings. The Indians built a 7-0 lead after four frames then put Colo-Nesco away with a five-run fifth.


Both Colo-Nesco runs came in the bottom of the third inning. Chelsea Henze was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Rylee Purvis singled and scored and Lauryn Hill walked and scored for the Royals.


Mackenna Ruffcorn, Kassie Robinson and Gracie Kettwig each added one single.


Ruffcorn was the losing pitcher after allowing seven earned runs on nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts in four innings. Robinson gave up five earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and walk apiece in one inning.


Kori Wedeking struck out nine and only walked one in five innings to get the win for Clarksville. Chloe Ross was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and three RBI and Bethany Negen was 3-for-3 with a triple and four runs.

RICEVILLE - Colo-Nesco used a strong start in one game and an explosive finish in the other to sweep Riceville in a doubleheader May 31 at Riceville.


The Royals won by scores of 12-0 in three innings and 8-2.


In the 12-0 drubbing, Colo-Nesco scored four times in the first and eight times in the second inning to put the game away early. Royal pitcher Kassie Robinson only gave up one hit, with three strikeouts and no walks, to get the victory.


The Colo-Nesco bats connected for seven hits. Robinson and Gracie Kettweig were both 2-for-2 with three RBI, Ayvarie Bappe doubled and drove in two runs and Claire Skinner singled, walked, scored and knocked in a pair of runs for the Royals in the win.


Brynn Hemann walked six and struck out one in one inning to take the loss for Riceville. Josie Gansen singled once for the lone Wildcat hit of the game.


In the 8-2 victory, Colo-Nesco found itself down 1-0 through three innings. But the Royals put up three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take charge.


Rylee Purvis got the win after allowing one earned run on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts, going all seven innings. Grace Stalzer doubled twice and added two runs and RBI apiece; Chelsea Henze was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI; Purvis doubled, scored and drove in a run and Molly Barten added a single.


Gansen allowed six earned runs on four walks and two strikeouts in seven innings as the losing Riceville pitcher in the second game. Abby Marr and Marisa Tetzner were both 2-for-4 with a double and Brooke Hobson 2-for-3 with a run for the Wildcats on offense.
