ZEARING - The Colo-Nesco baseball team didn’t have any answers for Don Bosco in a 16-1 loss to the Dons in four innings Friday at Zearing.


The Royals gave up 10 runs over the first two innings and six in the fourth. Their only run came in the bottom of the fourth as the game ended on account of the 15-run rule that goes into place after four innings.


Matthew Hill singled and scored Colo-Nesco’s run. Sean Cutler had one RBI for the Royals.


Ryan Banks was the losing pitcher after giving up 10 runs — six earned — on three hits with six walks in 1 ⅓ innings. Kelly Gray allowed six unearned runs on seven hits with one strikeout and no walks in 2 ⅔ innings.


Austin Miller homered, scored three times and drove in four runs for Don Bosco. Bryce Schares was the winning pitcher after striking out five with no walks in four innings.


The loss put Colo-Nesco at 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the Iowa Star Conference.

ZEARING - A big fifth inning wasn’t enough for Colo-Nesco in a 10-5 loss to AGWSR May 25 at Zearing.


The Royals scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fifth. But they had dug themselves in a 10-0 hole and it proved too much to overcome as AGWSR held the Royals scoreless over the final two innings.


Matthew Hill, Kelly Gray, Garret Tiarks and Philip Bower each singled and scored for Colo-Nesco during the game. Gray also walked, stole two bases and drove in a run, and Tiarks picked up one walk and steal apiece.


Mason Lytle singled and drove in a run, Jacob Clatt singled and Sean Cutler scored once for the Royals.


Bryce Niemeyer gave up eight earned runs on 14 hits with nine strikeouts and no walks in 4 ⅓ innings as the losing pitcher. Cutler threw 2 ⅔ innings and didn’t give up a run or hit with four strikeouts and one walk.


Matt Pfaltzgraff went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Nate Karsjens doubled and drove in two runs to lead AGWSR at the plate. Liam Stubbe gave up four earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 4 ⅔ innings to get the win for the Cougars.

GREEN MOUNTAIN - A late rally wasn’t enough for Colo-Nesco in an 11-8 season-opening loss to GMG May 22 at Green Mountain.


The Royals took a 3-2 lead after three innings. But GMG put up six runs in the fourth and added three more in the fifth.


Colo-Nesco kept the Wolverines off the board in the sixth inning, then erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh. But the Royals couldn’t finish the comeback.


Matthew Hill was 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI; Garret Tiarks doubled, scored and drove in three runs and Mason Lytle, Jacob Clatt, Sean Cutler and Garrett Packer each drove in one run for the Royals.


As a team, Colo-Nesco had eight hits.


Hill was the losing pitcher after giving up nine runs — four earned — on seven hits with six walks and one strikeout in four innings. Kelly Gray allowed two runs on two hits with one walk in ⅔ of an inning and Cutler threw 1 ⅓ scoreless innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
